1 INTRODUCTION

In 5620 SAM, Administrator can enable physical port hold-time feature based on
managed-object statistics for massive deployment using Bulk Operations method.

The hold-time feature do shutdown a particular pysical port which observing some
falppinf or bounching in order to avoid storm alarm and event-control log which
burden both SAM and its node too much. Indosat has approved to use 40 sec at
Port Up value for the reference.

The procedures in this document describe the steps to create a bulk operation to
enable hold-time feature massively in all of the network via SAM 12.0R7.

3 ASSUMPTIONS

It is assumed that the following items are configured in the network prior to
executing this MOP:

1. 5620SAM servers and databases are installed, configured and operational.


2. Statistics counter collection is activated in SAM depending on the monitored
object.
3. Node monitored is fully discovered with "full resyncronized"

4.1 Bulk Operation in SAM 12.0R7


4.2 Creating a Bulk Change in SAM 12.0R7
The following procedures describe how to create a bulk operation to enable hold-
time port up with set up it to 40 sec.

4.2.1 Creating a Hold-Time Bulk Operations

1. Choose Tools→Bulk Operation from the 5620 SAM main menu. The
Bulk Operation form opens.

2. Specify the filter to select all of network port mode under managed
nodes.

3. Specify the attribute to point Hold-Time Up which set it up to 40 sec.

4. Next to Change Review mode in order to make sure that all of the
defined as proper requested.

5. Save your changes and close the form.

4.2.2 Enabling a Hold-Time Bulk Operation

1. Choose Tools → Bulk Operation from the 5620 SAM main menu. The
Bulk Change Operation form opens.

2. Choose Batch Control and click Generate Batches.

3. Click “Execute Selected” or “Execute All” based on the shown list


batches.

4. Soon got completed the operation has done.

4.2 Backout Procedure


If there is a problem after enabling physical port hold-time Bulk Operation creation,
disable and remove defined hold-time bulk operation

4.2.1 Disable & Remove Objects from Bulk Operation

1. Choose Tools→Bulk Operation then click Search from the 5620 SAM
main menu. The Bulk Operation form opens

2. Select Hold-Time Bulk Operation name and then click Delete.

4.2.2 Save your changes and close the forms.
