Living in Czech Republic

For several weeks living in Czech as an exchange student especially in Plzen, I could observe the behavior
and habits of society. Coexist with them, is an experience in itself that should be grateful for me, because
it only be obtained in Czech and we can not get it in other countries. As is commonplace, we felt happy
and sad sometimes. But it would feel good if we look and then take a lesson of it. We take the good and
leave the bad. So, let us examine the behavior of the Czechs routine activity.

In general character of the Czech people is divided by 2 kinds which is the hard – minded old one and the
open – minded young one, this may also be triggered by environmental indeed harsh climates and
society effect by globalization. Snapped-snap society is becoming a habit for an old czechs, even in
everyday speech tone used was very high. So do not be surprised if we hear a loud cry in Czech.

Another thing that characterizes the nature of the Czechs people is pride of own language. It has
become commonplace, to start a conversation, especially in the old generation this is very tipical. When I
started a conversation in English, they always replied with Czech language which I don’t understand and
this is a big barrier for myself while taking anamnesis in the hospital.

As any society, good and bad behavior will be found, as well as in Czech. You can found the
majority of Czechs young generations there who behave well, even very well. He did not hesitate to help
others, whether in the form of material or non-material. This proved that sometimes we are with the
status as a student, when they are in public places, sometimes we were called by the Czechs, then get
acquainted and ask this and that, and the last was given money by the person. Vice versa, there are
among Czechs who behave badly, even very bad, especially in the old generations. Because we’re like a
stranger who visit their country and sometimes less proficient about Czech, then they assume that we
are weak, then offhand treat us. This often happens in administrative matters, in the markets, even in
the streets sometimes. So for foreigners like us be cautious and have a lot of patience.

Here are some common things that can be encountered in Czech, whether they are positive or negative;

POSITIVE

1. Including the positive things that we can look at the Czechs, the Czechs still respect the values of
religion and moslem people. It shows by the mosques built in the dormitory filled by many pilgrims.

2. Including the positive thing is that the Czechs among those who like to help, either in the form of
material or non-material. When we got lost on the way, for example, then we asked, they did not
hesitate to give information, even they do not do not hesitate to take us to get to the destination.

4. Another positive thing that belongs to the Czechs population is very high social sensitivity. This
sensitivity is evident when helping someone. If you hear a cry for help, then simultaneously people will
come flocking to see what happened and provide help. Likewise, when seeing the accident,
spontaneously all vehicles will stop and see what happens then help. This also applies when saw no
fighting. Everyone must come to break them up.

5. The Czechs are also famous for high nationalism. Although it happened in Czech was not encouraging
but they are still proud of their country.

6. The Czechs are also known to be very discipline and able to keep their promises. For example, when
he says he want to come at 7 AM, then he will come, no matter what happens.

This all are inclusive positive things we should take a lesson, and wherever possible we apply in our daily
lives.

While the negative things that can be found in Czech, among others;

2. The negative thing we found that the Czechs are easily angry, but we only saw it in the old
generations.

3. Another negative of the Czechs are less concerned about the body hygiene. Still I always smell the
body odor of them because most of the Czechs only took a bath once every 2 – 3 days.

4. In addition, the famous Czechs talkative. It is debatable trivial long, until we are tired of hearing it.
Once the Czechs speak, it will be difficult to stop and the talks will widen unknown direction.

5. Lastly, many negative things that we see are early to close. Try to do a shopping in mall at 8.00 PM,
and the silence is what you will get. Markets and shops are usually closed at around 8 PM. That is
happening in Czech.
