Sing Sing Sing Arrangment

Analysis
My composition, was an arrangement of Benny Goodman’s song, sing sing
sing, for a small jazz quartet; trumpet, bass, piano and drums. Arranging for this is
ensemble, meant that I had to alter the song quite drastically from the original which
was composed for a big band.

For my arrangement, I used the same key signature as the original, and
started a slightly varied version of the bass line from sing sing sing, as an ostinato,
which played the i min7 #13 and v7 chord over. This meant that the chords didn’t
dictate the mood of the peice to much.
Then the peice changes into a funk feel and aspects of the sing sing sing
melody over a i min7 #13, v7, vi7, vii7 chord progression.

In my arrangement was vastly different to the original, but I reckon it

worked.
