1.0 INTRODUCTION
This document contains the Structural Calculations for the design of the proposed residential development for
Mr Ukadike Ake located at block 25, plot 25, Lekki Peninsula Scheme II, Eti-Osa LGA, Lagos State. The design is
in accordance with British Standards (BS).

3.0 DESIGN
3.1 Design Approach
The entire building was modeled as a space frame in 3-dimension and the analysis was
performed on Staadpro. The super structure is a combination of suspended floor slabs, floor
beams, roof beams and columns. The slab loadings are transferred to the beams which in turn
transfer the loads to the columns. The loads are transferred to the foundation by the columns.
The foundation is made up of raft. The detailed output of analysis and design for the floor slabs,
beams, columns and foundation are presented in various sections of this document.
3.2 Slab design
The suspended floor slab on the first floor was made of 150mm thick panels, while cantilevers
were made of 200mm thick panels.
Floor Slab Loading (Slab thickness h = 150mm/175mm)
Slab self weight 1 = 0.15 x 24 = 3.60KN/m2.
Slab self weight 2 = 0.175 x 24 = 4.20KN/m2.
Finishes = 0.05 x 20 = 1.00KN/m2
Partition = 1.0KN/m2
Total dead load 1 = 5.6KN/m2
Total dead load 2 = 6.2KN/m2
Live load = 1.5KN/m2
Overhead Tank live load = 5.0kN/m2
Main block wall partitions on the beam outline are applied as uniformly distributed loads on the
beams in KN/m.
Block wall load = 2.87KN/m2 x 3m = 8.61kN/m. Additional 1.0kN/m was added for wall finishing.
Refer to section 4.2 for the detailed design output.
3 OF 155
450x230mm in dimension, while the roof beams are 300x230mm. Refer to the drawing layout
and section 4.4 for the detailed design output.
3.5 Column Design
Columns are 230x230mm in dimension. Please refer to section 4.5 for detailed design
calculations for the columns.
