INTRODUCTION:

According to Thich Nhat Hanh “It is important that we re-learn the art of resting
and relaxing. Not only does it prevent the onset of illnesses that develop through
chronic tension and worrying, but allows us to clear our minds, focus, and find creative
solutions to a problem”

Home works, performance tasks, projects, and school activities are necessary
for students to increase their learning capabilities and life-skills such as problem
solving, goal-setting, socializing and perseverance in every situation. Nevertheless, if
profusion of tasks are starting to occur, a one beneficial task can be non-beneficial.
Why? Because overloading of tasks can have an adverse effect on students.

Hence, the researchers wants to uncover how these profusion of tasks affects
the health, performance, and development of every student. Students sometimes may
experience heavy and restless activities because of the shorter time of deadline given
to them. Sporadically, students may experience sleep deprivation due to this matter
which causes students to easily get sick and lose focus during class discussion.
Through this study, the researchers presumes to find if time management is still
legitimate with this matter or should our curriculum lessen the works of the student for
them to be able to maintain their health condition. Also, the researchers wants to find
out how this issue affects the mental, social, and physical health of the student.

Furthermore, this study seeks to correlate the significance relationship

between the respondent’s hectic schedule would affect their family relationship and
based on the data gathered.

Theoretical Framework:

The study is supported by significant theories to strengthen the research problems

which the researchers wished to achieve for significant answers.

According to DepEd Memorandum No. 392, signed by Education Secretary Armin

Luistro last September 16, “It is advised that the teachers limit the giving of
homework/assignments to a reasonable quantity to give their pupils ample time to
rest
and relax at home for the rest of the day."

It is said that teachers should only give smidgen tasks to student for them to be
able to take rest, have a healthy life, have time for themselves and for their family.
This would easily help a student improve not only academically but also help them
improve their performance.
In addition to this is the “reactance” theory. This happens when a student feel that
their freedom to choose an action is threatened, they get an unpleasant feeling called
“reactance.” This provokes the student to show their threatening behaviour
consequently to prove that their free will hasn’t been undermined . This happens
mostly when students are told to do many tasks in a short period of time, students
sometime feel wearied and unmotivated to finish their tasks which causes them to
produce bad performances.

Conceptual Framework:

The theoretical framework consist of everything the researchers want to

know. This presents how profusion of tasks affects the health, development, and
performance of the students in Cabuyao Integrated National High School along with
their relationship
among their families and friends.

Objectives of the Study:

The purpose of this research is to find out the effects of profusion of tasks to
the health of the students in Cabuyao National High School with the intent to achieve
the following objectives:
1. How does the profusion of tasks affect their health:
1.1. Mentally
1.2. Socially
1.3. Physically
2. What is the impact of profusion of tasks to:
2.1. Development
2.1.1. Productivity
2.1.2. Creativity
2.2. Performance

Statement of the Problem:

The main concern of this study is to distinguish the effects of the profusion of
tasks to the health, development, and performance of the students. Particularly, the
following sub problems:

1. How does the profusion of tasks affect their health:

1.1. Mentally
1.2. Socially
1.3. Physically
2. What is the impact of profusion of tasks to:
2.1. Development
2.1.1. Productivity
2.1.2. Creativity
2.2. Performance

Scope and Limitation of the Study:

The study focused on the effects of profusion of works to the students like how
does profusions of tasks affects their health and what is the impact of profusion of
tasks to the students. The breakout of discussion of the study concentrated in all
Grade levels as they are the one that is subjected, through the use of survey
questionnaire.

Significance of the study:

The present study will help us, researchers and the students to know what
would the effects of profusions of tasks to us. It also would also be helpful understand
how would the effects of profusions of works will affects us and how would it affects
the relationship with your family. As well as this would be helpful to the other
researchers who will conduct the same topic. As a result, we can tell to the teachers
how bunch of assignments or activities affects us and this would be beneficial for the
students who

When we entered school, school works and also home works have already been part
of it. When we go home, we do our home works first before we play, otherwise, we’ll
be scolded by our parents. During our pre-school days, our home works were easy.
But as we enter elementary school, High school or College, we can really say that the
school works and home works difficulty rises and so as their frequency. High school
and College students are the ones who are really affected by this, they usually pull on
All-nighter more often in order just to go finish school works resulting to lack of sleep.
These profusion of task are really common, some hate it and some don’t mind it.
Some says that this is practice or training for students to better perform in the future,
but is it?

From an article of Sandra Levy (2017), she said that, “ Both the National Education
(NEA) and the National (NPTA) support a standard of 10 minutes of homework per
grade level.” That’s a maximum of 10 minutes’ times the grade level of the child. So,
10 minutes max per first grade, 20 minutes max per 2nd grade and 120 minutes max
on two hours per 12th grade students. Sandra Levy (2017) also said that, based from
the 2015 study Published in the Omarion journal of Tomily- therapy, the study
surveyed more than 1,100 parents in Rhode Island with school-age children. The
researchers found out that first and second graders received 27 and 26 minutes of
home-work per night. Kindergarten received 24 minutes of homework per night, on
average. But according to the standards of the WEA and NPTA, they shouldn’t have
any at all. This is shocking, this means that even the kindergarten has much work,
Base from the rule of 10 minutes per grade, the marks start at 1st grade and it have a
maximum of 10 minutes. In the case, kindergarten is not even included, yet some
does 25 minutes of home works. As said this could affect their time with their parents,
their time plating and enjoying their life as a kid, as well as their health too. A
research were conducted at Stanford university and they found out that students in
high achieving communities who spend too much time on home work experience
more than physical health problem, a lack of balance in their lives, and alienation
from society. The study suggested that two hours of homework per night
counterproductive. However, student who participated in the study reported that they
do slightly more than three hours of homework each night on average. When it comes
to the effects of the excessive home works, 70 percent of the respondent said that
most of the times are always, they’re stressed over school work. Within this 56
percent said that homework is their number one stressor, less than one percent said
homework was not a stressor.

The students also experienced physical symptoms of them like headache,

exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss and stomach problem. 80 percent of the
students reported that they’ve experienced one stress-related symptom while 44
percent reported that they’ve experienced three or more. The researchers also found
out that the excessive amount of school work affected their social life. It affected their
time with their parents, friends and other social activities.

So, are the profusion of school works really essential? Essential for students to
improve, to perform better? Or is it like a double-edged sword where as we swing our
swords we would also hunt ourselves? Base from the previous studies and
researchers, too much homework really has an aftermath to the students. The
researchers conducted a research in Cabuyao Integrated National High School to see
if the students also experience profusion of school works and also to see if these
excessive works also affect their health.
