E. TCC One-line (on left side)

8
1. Does not affect main one-line

The TCC one-line has its own one-line coordinates. Dragging, re-
sizing ..etc. does not affect the main one-line drawing. However,
this left TCC one-line is LINKED to the main one-line. Therefore,
faults can be run and equipment data can be viewed from the TCC
one-line.

2. Left side vs One-line box

One-line box always shows a zoomed-out-full version of the left

one-line.

3. Printing Options

F. TCC Storage

1. Similar to Scenario storage

Storing a TCC does not save it to the database. It only attaches the
TCC to the temporary file. File  Save must be run for stored
TCCs to be saved to the database.

2. “Latest” vs “Read-only”

3. Global vs. TCC dependent changes

a) Global Changes

9
 Equipment Trip Settings: This includes all equipment
setting information (i.e. manufacturer, pickup,
instantaneous ...etc.).

b) TCC Dependant Changes

 Short Circuit Settings: Includes tick mark

checkboxes, clipping specifications, and all user-
entered kA values.

 TCC Plot Checkboxes: Includes Phase Trip, Ground

Trip, Fuse, Mtr O/L…etc.

 TCC Appearances: Includes TCC curve colors,

styles, and line types. This also includes TCC plot area
formatting, title block formatting ...etc.

 TCC Options: These primarily relate to which short

circuit currents are used in a TCC. Includes the option
to choose between User-Specified values and
Calculated from Short Circuit values.

4. Temporary Changes vs. DB changes

Equipment setting changes made in Coordination focus are

TEMPORARY. You must save the temporary changes before
entering Database Edit focus. Otherwise, the temporary changes
will be discarded.

(Note: When leaving Coordination focus, you will be asked if you

want to save the temporary changes.)

G. Coordination Options – Defaults for new TCCs

10
1. Default TCC Curve Colors

2. Other Defaults

3. Calculated from SC vs. User Specified

This setting in Coordination Options is the default for new TCCs.

Each TCC can have its own setting in TCC Options.

H. Short Circuit

1. TCC Options

11
The settings in TCC Options are all TCC based.

2. Run faults on TCC one-line.

When the TCC Options are set to Calculated from SC, running
faults on the one-line will affect tick marks and curve clipping.

a) Fault All

Faulting all buses determines the maximum fault current

that a protective device will see.

b) Fault Selected

Faulting one bus automatically calculates remote currents

on the remaining TCC buses. In this case, remote currents
are used (when applicable) for curve clipping and tick mark
location.

3. Tick Marks

a) User-specified SC currents (TCC Options = User

Specified)

12
(1) User manually enters short circuit currents in dialog
boxes.

(2) If the equipment ‘kA’ fields are left blank,

EasyPower does not display those tick marks.

(3) User-entered short circuit currents are stored on a

TCC basis. If the user enters short circuit currents
in Database Edit focus, those values act as defaults
for new TCCs.

b) Program calculated SC currents (TCC Options =

Calculated from SC)

EasyPower ignores user-entered values if Calculated from

SC.

c) Manually created tick marks

Use Insert  SC Tick Mark from the menu. Calculated

short circuit currents never automatically affect manually
inserted tick marks.

13
4. Clipping

Below is an example fuse curve clipped at 100A:

a) The TCC Clipping combo applies to both User specified

and Calculated from SC currents.

b) User-specified currents

(1) User manually enters short circuit currents in dialog

boxes. (Same fields as for tick marks.)

(2) If the equipment ‘kA’ fields are left blank,

EasyPower assumes default clipping.

(3) User-entered short circuit currents are stored on a

TCC basis. If the user enters short circuit currents
in Database Edit focus, those values act as defaults
for new TCCs.

c) Program calculated SC currents

EasyPower ignores user-entered values if Calculated from

SC.

14
I. Motor starting Curves

1. The motor curve shows graphically (amps vs. time) the action of
starting a motor.

2. The curve can be modified by user-defined curve data and motor

starting parameters.

3. Motor Starting Parameters:

a) Motor full load amps

b) Acceleration time
c) Locked rotor multiple
d) Asymmetrical Offset

4. Motor curve data is specified in the TCC tab

15
5. Motor starting data can be automatically transferred from the TCC
tab to the Motor Starting tab by clicking on the Calculate button.

J. Transformer Damage Curves

1. The following curve shown is a transformer damage curve. The

point labeled Inrush, is the magnetizing inrush current.

2. The curve shows the 100% damage curve as well as a 58% shifted
curve for primary protection of the delta-wye transformer. This
shift is for secondary line-to-ground faults.

For delta-delta transformers, the shift is 87% for line-to-line faults.

16
K. SmartPDC

1. EasyPower SmartPDC tool will automatically coordinate

protective devices and provide a report with suggested settings.

2. To use the SmartPDC tool, highlight equipment and click on the

Auto Coordinate toolbar button

17
3. The settings and options for SmartPDC can be set by clicking on
Action / Smart PDC / Smart PDC Options and selecting the Auto
Coordination tab.

L. Motor Overload Relays

These can be plotted with any LV Breaker or fuse curve. Data is entered
in the Mtr O/L tab of the LV Breaker or Fuse Data dialog.

1. Data entry includes motor data

2. Merge with fuse/breaker curve

18
M. One-line graphics

1. Connecting differential relays

Note: Change the polarity of a CT graphically by dragging the CT

with the Shift key pressed.

2. Connecting multiple relays to 1 CT

19
Multi-function relays

3. Creating

4. Modifying/updating in TCCs

N. Current Transformer (CT)

1. A CT can be added to the one-line by selecting the CT toolbar
button.
2. A CT is automatically created when a relay is attached to the one-
line.
3. To enter CT data such as ratio or connection type, double click the
CT to open the device dialog.

Note: Graphically change the polarity of a CT by dragging the CT

with the Shift key pressed.

20
O. Motor/Generator relays

1. Data entry includes motor/generator data

2. Time Dials are thermal – they do not drag w/ tap.

P. Time Difference Indicator

1. Select any two protective devices (Relays, SSTs, Non-SSTs,

Thermal Magnetic breakers, Fuses) and then press the Time

Difference Calculator button .

By default, the Time Difference Indicator will start at the

minimum time difference between the two curves.

21
2. Adjust the time difference indicator

3. Calculate Min Difference

Select a time difference indicator and choose Edit  Calculate

Min Difference from the menu.

4. Storage

The time difference indicator stores in TCCs. (Only the bracket

stores. The draggable red line comes up when the indicator is
selected.)

Q. Insert Existing Item

To insert an existing item to the TCC oneline, right click on the equipment
the item is connected to and select Insert Existing Item... An Insert
Existing Item dialog box will appear. Select the equipment you would
like to add to the TCC oneline by checking the appropriate box and
pressing OK. If the equipment has a TCC curve, it will also be added to
the TCC plot.

R. Inserting Curves

To insert a curve that is not linked to the main one-line, choose Insert 
Curve from the TCC menu.

22
S. Shifted Curves

To shift curves by 58% or 87% (plus or minus), select a trip curve and
choose Insert  Shifted Curve from the TCC menu.

T. Copy and Paste of TCC Graphics

Use the (Copy) button to copy the TCC graphics to a metafile so that
it can be pasted into another program. (Be sure that the TCC side – not
one-line side – of the window was last clicked before copying. Otherwise
the TCC one-line will get copied.)

U. ATS Curves

ATS’s allow a TCC plot when the ATS is made of LV Breakers.

V. MCC and Panel Curves

The Main Breaker (or Main Fuse) of an MCC or Panel allows plotting in a
TCC.

In addition, individual MCCs and Panel rows allow TCC plotting, but only
as long as their Load Type is set to one of the following:

23
1. Sub-MCC: When selected, the breaker (or fuse) can be plotted.
The cable shows on the one-line, so it can be plotted as well
2. Sub-Panel: When selected, the breaker (or fuse) can be plotted.
The cable shows on the one-line, so it can be plotted as well
3. Motor w/ TCC: When selected, the breaker (or fuse), cable, and
motor can be plotted.
4. Load w/ TCC: When selected, the breaker (or fuse) and cable can
be plotted.

W. Miscellaneous Info on Other Curves

a) Generator Curves – These curves show the short circuit decrement

from the generator.

b) Non-SST Curves – also called electromechanical trip curves. These

pre-date the more modern solid state trips.

c) SST Ground Curves – These are part of some solid state trip units.
They trip based on zero sequence current and hence require a ground
fault to trip.

d) Cable Damage Curves – These show the thermal damage of a cable

due to a downstream fault.

24
X. Sequence of Events

You can perform a Sequence of Events on the one-line by faulting a single

bus or multiple buses on the one line and choosing the button. Results
for a single bus fault sequence of events will show on the one-line. If
running a Sequence of Events for multiple buses, the results are not shown
on the one-line but are viewed in the Sequence of Events Report.

III. Reports

A. TCC Coordination Report

1. All protective devices in TCC

To create TCC report, choose Action  Report from the menu

when a TCC is active. All selected protective devices in the TCC
will be put in the report.

If no items are selected when performing step #3, then all

protective equipment in the one-line will be put in the report.

2. Configuration, Printing & copy/paste

Prints from EasyPower. Also copies and pastes into Microsoft

Excel. Also the columns are customized via View  Report
Configuration.

25
B. Database Report w/ TCC items

This is another way to display a schedule of relay settings in a spreadsheet

format. To access this report, go to Database Edit focus and choose File
 Database  Database Browser from the menu.

1. Can save print configurations in the format.

2. Copy and Paste data into Microsoft Excel

3. View relay calibration points in the Relay section. Define the

multiples in the Tools  Options dialog box.

26
IV. Other Features

A. Importing Data from one library to another

1) Run "EZPImportLib.exe" found at

www.easypower.com/updates

2) Select the import "From" library and the import "To" library.

27
3) Check the boxes of the equipment types you wish to import (i.e. SST,
Relays, ..etc.)

4) Press the "Import" button

-- When pressing the "Import" button, EasyPower will run a

comparison of the two libraries. When the comparison is
completed, a window will appear showing the differences in the
two libraries. (At this point, no importing has been done yet.)

5) Check the boxes next to the differences you would like to import and press
the “Import” button

-- EasyPower will import only the selected differences specified by

the user in step #3.

B. TCCs in scenarios

1. Base Case TCCs

Cannot be modified while in a scenario. They can be viewed,

however. Opening a Base Case TCC while in a scenario gives the
following message:

28
2. Scenario TCCs

TCCs can be created in a scenario. But, scenario TCCs can only

be accessed in their respective scenarios. The Base Case cannot
see a scenario TCC because the TCC is wrapped up in a macro.

When in a scenario, EasyPower automatically adds a tilde (~) in

front of all scenario TCCs.

Note: There are issues when plotting TCCs of devices created in a

scenario. If you are needing to add a device in a scenario for the purpose
of plotting it in a TCC, it is best to add that device in the base case
instead.

29
V. Library Editing

A. Fuses

The HV Fuse tree is as follows:

 Mfr
Type
Style
Model
 kV
Size

The LV Fuse is identical, except the Model level is removed.
