A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics IV

I. OBJECTIVE:

After the 60-minute discussion, the Grade 4 pupils are expected to do the
following objective with 855 of proficiency:

A. Determine the formula in finding the area of a rectangle;


B. Solve problem regarding area of a rectangle;
C. Apply the learning from solving mathematical problem to solve real life
problems.

But before we move on to our

What is polygon class?
Polygon is a closed plain figure which
has side and vertices.

identify its name by posting or
connecting it to the chart that we
have earlier.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity

As you observe, you only have a


little amount of plants and
vegetables in your farm. But you
can plant more or you can plant
less depending on how you truly
love your plants.
This time we are going to play,
Plants vs Zombie. You will be the
farmer to plant and I will the
zombie that will eat your plant. I
have here some flash cards with
multiplication problem. I will show it
to the whole class and everyone
must answer within 5 seconds
only. Every correct answer is
equivalent to a set of plant or
vegetables but every wrong
answer is equivalent to a zombie
that will eat a portion of you farm.

3. Abstraction

The number of plants and


vegetables in a row are what we
called width in Mathematics. The
column is the length and the total
number of plants is the Area of the
farm or the whole rectangle.

A=L×W

Area – the number or total of unit


squares that can be contained
within it.
Length – is describing how long an
object is. It is the longer side of a
certain polygon like rectangle.
Width – tis describing how wide an
object is. It is the shorter side of a
rectangle.
*The area of a rectangle can be
measured by counting all the
squares that can be contained
within it but in an easier way, we
can just simple multiply the length
and the width and we will get the
same answer.
For example:
A=L×W
A=6×3
A = 18
*Unit measures that are commonly
used are mm, cm, m, in, ft, km and
miles.

For example:

A = 6 cm × 4 cm
A = 24 cm2
Because:
6 × 4 = 24
cm × cm = cm2

Word problem:

Mang Pedring is planning to buy a


farmland so that he can plant rice and
other root crops for his family. He
saw a lot for sale which is 7 meters
wide and 10 meters long. What is the
area of the farm land?

7m

10 m

A=L×W

A = 10m × 7m

A = 70m2

wide and 43cm long?

2 boys walked from the same spot. If the
first boy walked 35m to north and the
second boy walked 27m to the east, what
is the total area they had cored?
You will be given 5 minutes to do the
activity and 5 minutes for the presentation.
