Reading/Language Arts
In Language Arts our learning targets this week have included:
*Spelling focus: consonant blends “ng” and “nk” at the end of words
*synonyms: words that mean almost the same thing (happy, glad)
*Sounds made by CV words like no, hi, and he!
*blending sounds, rhyming words
*recognizing verbs and plural verbs that add “s”
*inferring– figuring out that because one thing happened another will or
because a character jumped up and down and yelled, “Yippee” we can infer
they are happy!
*Cause & effect– something that causes something else to happen: It rains.
(cause) We can’t have our picnic. (Effect)
*Story Structure – including setting, characters, beginning, middle, end,
problem, solution.
What else: This week in writing we have been finishing our animal
fantasy from last week after another snow day both last week and this week
and a two hour delay and Valentine’s party! We also fit in a quick CLASS
BOOK based on a Valentine’s book we read!

CANCER! You will receive an
E-blast with our team goals for
this event! Our best friend EMMIE
is fighting this battle and we want
to be a part of helping find a cure!
OUR CLASS GOAL IS $1 from every
student on Wednesday for Hat Day.
Math
This week we continued Unit 5.
Our Learning targets have
included:
*solving teen addition &
subtraction problems
*solving teen addition &
subtraction number stories
*writing number stories
*finding unknowns in various teen
addition & subtraction problems
JUST A word of CAUTION. Many
students are getting lazy about
their number stories. Please
remind them to circle the numbers
in their story & to write their
problem in order of the story!
ALSO I am getting a lot of sloppy
work and work in ink! Please
stress quality work and pencil!

March is Reading Month at
Waukazoo! It is a BIG DEAL! I do
lots of things to promote reading
and one of them is to try to have
a guest reader every school day
in March! Are you free one day?
The times that work best for us
are 11:45 (perhaps you can tie it
into your lunch) or 3:15! Baggy
Book Mom’s we can use you
before you get started or right
after! MARCH 1 is taken but any
other day right now is open!
Email me and let me know what
day works for you! You and your
child can pick a favorite book
that is about 10-15 minutes long!
WE also love grandparents, the
mayor (if you know them), or
other special people! So far I
only have 3!
