To awaken the creativity, potential and purpose of It’s a process about encouraging children and young
Apostolic Faith Mission Young People’s Union.
Background
Apostolic Faith Mission youths have been facing
challenges in their churches, communities and homes
regardless of a survey conducted, that disclosed that,
many youths are devoting their lives to Christ each and
every week.
Despite the fact that the highest percentage of AFM
members are below 40 years, the youths have been
disregarded in the church for quite a period.
Subsequently, it was noted that this has been the course
due to unemployment, lack of knowledge, poor
leadership, poor financial statuses and low self-esteem.
Furthermore, most pastors and leaders, offer the youth
the minimal opportunities to take part in several church
activities, thus, making the youth to be sluggish in
churches. Moreover, it is eminent that, AFM lacks
seminars and policies that deliberately supports youth
with entrepreneurship ideas and morale to support the
youth’s spiritual, financial and physical stability.

people to take charge of their own lives. They do
accordingly by addressing their situations and then take
actions in order to improve their access to resources and
transform their consciousness through their beliefs,
values and attitudes.
Youth empowerment aims to improve quality of life and
can develop our churches in this case. It is therefore,
achieved through participation in youth services,
seminars, education and other activities. Unlike youth
development which centres on developing individuals,
youth empowerment focuses on creating greater
community change by relying on the development of the
individuals’ dimensions.
Suggested roles of young people in any local churches:
1. Be fully involved in the local church
I view this as not just to being a regular Sunday
worshiper, but also being involved in weekly activities
of the church such as midweek services, prayer
meetings, giving tithe and offerings and also to be a
robust member of the young peoples’ ministry within
the church.

2. Reach out to the community
Helping out the needy and empowering youths or
anyone else in the church or community, draws
blessings and honour closer. As a young person in a
church, Christianity must reign, and one quality of
Christianity is to reach out and be in need to the needy.
3. Develop long-lasting relationships with those
from older generations.
There is a need to recall that young ones must live in
mutual and cordial relations with older generation as in
future the young will grow to be a man or woman who
will then take up the positions being occupied by the
older generation. As a young man myself, I identify the
zeal we have in criticising the elders for the ills we
ascertain in churches and societies. Yeah! that might
sound true but, as an alternative, let’s not live in the past
but to work together and clean the mess as we are
moving forward.
4. Recommend activities, program emphasis, and
settings to the church board for young people
The young people’s department of any local church, are
responsible to suggesting new and innovative initiatives
and approaches towards youth congregational care
ministries like evangelism, Quiz, community outreach,
sports activities, bible studies and alike.
5. Organise trips
Young people are certainly get caught with trivial
effects. Therefore, organising trips to the lake,
geographic scenery, hospitals, or trips of any kind can
enhance youth involvement in the activities of churches
and communities.
In summary, the main role of a young Christian is to
strengthen the capacity of the church intellectually,
financially and morally despite its apparent diversity.
We are capable because we are generally more energetic
and proactive than any other demographics within the
church and communities since almost 60% of youths are
not married, hence, we have more time to commit to
various activities.

About Area 49 AFM youth
Is one of the dynamic youth group in AFM church under
the leadership of Pastor H.P. Maonde through whom it
has been empowered and succeeded in achieving
sustainable change at its local church.
The overall goal of Area 49 AFM youths is to be
generative in their activities and to have businesses
across. To achieve this, they produce magazines,
newsletters and theories of change to guide them
through.
