The ISTE standards, found at www.iste.

org, are a framework used by teachers,

administrators, students and others as standards of teaching in the new age modern classroom.

These standards are used by countries worldwide and help incorporate technology into the

classroom.

The learning style I would implement in the classroom is analyst. The analyst standard is

defined as “educators understand and use date to drive their instruction and support students in

achieving their learning goals”. The analyst standard also has 3 sub points. The first is” to

provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate competency and reflect on their learning

using technology”. The second is to “use technology to design and implement a variety of

formative and summative assessments that accommodate learner needs, provide timely feedback

to students and inform instruction”. The last sub point is to “Use assessment data to guide

progress and communicate with students, parents and education stakeholders to build student

self-direction”. To satisfy the first sub point, I would have students use a presentation medium,

such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Moviemaker or similar programs, to complete various assignments

throughout the year. To satisfy the second sub-point I would use programs such as Kahoot or

Nearpod for students to take formative assessments. The students get immediate feedback on

what answers are right so that they can get timely feedback. Also, when using sites like Kahoot it

gives feed back on student responses and allows to review all responses given in the quiz and

save the responses. I would then take the information from the quiz and use it to adapt my lesson

plans to focus on more problem areas thus satisfying sub point number three.

The ISTE standards for students are important because in the modern world technology is

the center of daily life. The standards are teaching students things that they will need and utilize

throughout their whole lives. There is seven main points for the student standards each of which
teaches the student something valuable about technology. The standards that I think are most

important are digital citizen and creative communicator. The standard digital citizen says,

“Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working

in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and

ethical”. This is important because in a technology driven society it is important for students to

know the impact of what they put online and that it can never be undone once it is put online.

The standard creative communicator is defined as” Students communicate clearly and express

themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and

digital media appropriate to their goals”. It is important for students know how to be able to use

the different tools and platforms because they will use it their whole lives whether it be in school

or in life.

In conclusion, the ISTE standards are important and help all people involved in education

become more Intune with modern technology. The standards are useful for all aspects of

education and help students in their later eduaction and in life.

 Technology is constantly changing and evolving. Because of that current and future

educators must constantly learn about new technology in order to teach it to the future

generation.

My personal technology goals are to learn more about technology and learn how to use it

properly. I would also like to learn how to implement different technology’s in the classroom.

Being from one of the first innovation high schools in my district, my school would implement

any new technologies at our school first and wait for feedback before implementing in other

schools in the district, because of this we would change programs often. Therefore, I currently

know the basics of most programs. I am most proficient in Office 365, Apple systems and their

programs, I have used the Smartboard for various assignments and presentations. However, I

have never used them in a teacher capacity. Because of this I would like to learn the differences

between using the technologies in the different roles.

The SAMR model is used to slowly introduce students to alternative ways of doing tasks

that would normally be done without technology .The SAMR model can be integrated in the

classroom in a variety of ways the simplest way would probably be to do start with one

assignment and slowly start doing more and more assignments until everyone is doing all

assignments solely on the computer using new, alternative methods. One lesson that had the

SAMR model implemented in that worked well was in a animal science course. We started the

lesson using word to take notes. Throughout the lesson the teacher slowly added more aspects of

one note so by the end of the lesson the whole class could use the basic features of one note.

This lesson started as just substitution but as it progressed it ended as redefinition. One note

ended being a much better way to do that particular class because assignments, notes, group

projects and quizzes were all located in one spot, so nothing was missed placed.
 In conclusion, learning about technology is essential to education. I hope to meet and

exceed my personal goals in this class. The SAMR model is an extremely useful model to help

slowly integrate technology in the classroom and help students learn more about technology.
