Common Facilities : SN Facilities Purpose 1 Paddy Cleaning Plant For removing, soil, dirt, concrete, rejects, etc 2 Parboiling Plant For parboiling cleaned rice 3 Milling Plant For milling parboiled paddy for rice, bran, etc 4 Product Sep. Plant For separating rice, bran, husk, rejects, etc 5 Husk Fired Boiler For steam for parboiling paddy 6 D G Set For power during failure of regular power 7 Septic Tank, Soak pit For attending nature’s call
3.0. Products and By Products:
SN Products & By Products Mode of Disposal 1 Rice Sold in the market 2 Broken Rice Sold in the market 3 Bran Sold in the market
4.0. Wastes & Their Disposal Liabilities:
S N Category Name (s) of Wastes 1 Gaseous Wastes Exhausts of mill, Smoke of boiler, and Smoke and Noise of D G Set 2 Liquid Wastes Sewage, Sullage, Wash water, Boiler blow down, and Parboil tank discharge water. 3 Solid Wastes Concrete, Soil, Dirt, Residual husk, Rejects , Husk ash and ETP Sludge
5.0. Parboil Tank Discharge Common Quality & Quantity:
SN Parameter Standard Value Obtained Remarks H 1 P Value 5.5-9.0 4.5-5.5 Below Limit 2 BOD5 (mg/L) 30 700-900 Beyond Limit 3 COD (mg/L) 250 1500-1800 Beyond Limit 4 TSS(mg/L) 100 200-300 Beyond Limit 5 Water Consumption per tone of paddy charged 1.25 m3 6.0. Mode of Disposal of Wastewater:
S N Waste Category Mode of Disposal
1 Sewage & sullage Through septic tank & soak pit 2 Boiler blow down, part of ETP discharge and part of For quenching of husk ash parboil tank discharge 3 Rest of parboil tank Few rice mills just dispose of to discharge lagoons. Where they putrefy and find ways. Few rice mills treat them for pH correction, settling of TSS and then for reduction of BOD5 and COD. They, however, do not ensure the standard before discharge.
7.0. Quality of Discharge Wastewater:
SN Parameter Standard Value Obtained Remarks 1 PH Value 5.5-9.0 7.5-8.5 Within Limit 2 BOD5 (mg/L) 30 100-350 Beyond Limit 3 COD (mg/L) 250 300-900 Beyond Limit 4 TSS(mg/L) 100 90-300 Beyond Limit
As evident from the above, the quality of effluent does not
conform to the standard. They find ways from where they are kept. Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation has always been of discharge of polluting effluent.
