Checks Chapter Chapter 4

1.4 Check overload

Check
1. Place weight X corresponding to balance type (see table
B below) on weighing pan.
A The weighing pan must not move down.
2. Push the weighing pan down by hand and let go. Weighing
pan must automatically return to the starting position.
3. Place additional weight Y (Weight X + Y) corresponding to
balance type (see table below) on weighing pan.
The weighing pan moves down.
Note
If the weighing pan does not move down, possible causes are the
following:
• The moving parts of the cantilever are soiled.
• The force of spring A pressing on traverse B is too high (see

2 Removing the components

2.1 Working on electronically damageable components

2703 WARNING
Electrostatically damageable components.
Always use antistatic kit when working on electronic
components (see Section 1.2, Chapter 11).
• When removing and installing the Weighing cell, neither the
detector board nor the cable contacts may be touched.
• If no workplace with ESD protection is available, always touch
the bottom housing or any other metal part of the balance be-
fore any contact with the electronics. Following this action, the
board and the balance are at the same electrical potential as
the person performing the work.
• Boards which are returned for repair must be packaged in the
original antistatic packaging regardless of the fault.
• EEPROMs kept outside the balance must be stored on con-
ductive foam.
• If soldering work is performed on the boards, a soldering iron
isolated from the power supply (isolating transformer) is rec-
ommended.

Exchangeable components which are sensitive to elec-

trostatic discharge are marked with an ESD protection
symbol.

Set position
The arm of the cantilever arm must lie centrally in the chassis rel-
ative to the nose (see Section 3.2.3).
Adjustment is by changing the pressure of the springs C.
1. Place weight (e.g. adjustment weight of the balance) on the
cantilever arm.
2. Loosen both screws D.
The springs C no longer lie against the traverse E.
3. Screw in one of the two screws D until the spring C very
lightly touches the traverse.
E
4. Remove weight from arm.
C C
Check
D When the cantilever arm is moved to the side and released, it
D
must automatically spring back to the centered position.
5. Screw in the other screw D until the opening at the tip of the
Y cantilever arm lies symmetrically relative to the nose in the
chassis (Detail Y).
Check
= = When the cantilever arm is moved to the side and released, it
must automatically spring back to the centered position.
Note
The springs C may only make contact with the traverse. If the
pressure is too high, the function of the overload protection is no
2207
longer assured.

right edges of the weighing pan and each time note/print
display values deviating from zero with their sign.
3. Compare display values with tolerance «corner load»
(Chapter 9, see Section 1).
If difference from tolerance is greater than 0.1 g, the weigh-
ing cell must be inspected for mechanical damage or dirt in
the magnet system (see Section 6.6).
What to adjust when
Coarse adjustment: when deviation to tolerance is >5mg (see
Section 2, Chapter 9). For coarse adjustment procedure see

4.1 Load type data

If a new main board has been installed in the balance, a new type
definition must be loaded.

Note
The TDNR on the black laser label A should not be used before
2315 being tested.
A
Software or hardware changes may make it necessary to adjust
2318
the TDNR in line with the new functionalities too.
Where this is the case, the new TDNR and the new software ver-
sion must be entered in the relevant service label B. This pre-
vents errors and facilitates searches for the correct TDNR if they
can no longer be read from the balance.
