○ Characteristics and history
The University of Fukui consists of four
schools: the School of Education, the School of
Medical Sciences, the School of Engineering, and
the School of Global Community Studies. It has
also four graduate schools: the Graduate School
of Education, the Graduate School of Medical
Sciences, the Graduate School of Engineering, and
the United Graduate School of Professional
Development of Teachers, University of Fukui,
Nara Women’s University and Gifu Shotoku
Gakuen University (hereafter referred to United
Graduate School of PDT).
Teacher Training Students enroll in either the
Graduate School of Education or the United
Graduate School of PDT, and major in School
Education or Professional Development of
Teachers respectively.
Fukui Prefecture is situated in the central part
of Japan and is blessed with both natural beauty
and rich cultural heritage. Facing the Sea of Japan,
Fukui played an important role in ancient times as
a gateway to and from continental Asian countries,
and it still retains many relics that reflect its long
history and tradition. Fukui is a beautiful place
which changes its appearance in each season.
