Lesson Plan in EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE

Date: 6-23-2017 Yr. Section: 11- St. Raphael

I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of
1. geologic processes that occur on the surface of the Earth such as weathering,
erosion, mass wasting, and sedimentation (include the role of ocean basins
in the formation of sedimentary rocks)

Performance Standard: The learner shall be able to conduct a survey to assess the possible geologic hazards
that your community may experience.

Learning Competencies: The learners:

1. describes how rocks undergo weathering (S11/12ES-Ib-11)
2. explain how the products of weathering are carried away by erosion and
deposited elsewhere (S11/12ES-Ib-12)
3. make a report on how rocks and soil move downslope due to the direct
action of gravity (S11/12ES-Ib-13)

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Content: Exogenic Processes (Weathering, Mass Wasting, Sedimentation)
B. Resources:  Duyanen, J.P. & Andaya, M.O.(2016). Earth and Life Science for Senior High School.
Quezon City: C & E Publishing, Inc.
 Salandanan, G. G., Faltado, R. E., & Lopez, M. B. (2016). Earth and Life Sciences for
Senior High School (Core Subject). Quezon City: Lorimar Publishing, Inc.
 San Luis, A. m., Cadsi, R. D., Bantic, L. P., & Gambulao, G. M. (2016). Earth and Life
Science "Sustaining our Productive Earth". Iloilo City: St. Andres Publishing House.

C. Materials: Lecture notes, printed pictures, visual aids

III. LESSON PROPER

A. Activity: Group the students into 3 groups. Show pictures of trees that grow on rocks, road slips,
landslides, wave rock, sinkhole, river delta, or ripple marks on sand and in rocks.

B. Analysis: 1. Describe what you see in the picture.

What do you think are the phenomenon that are shown on the picture?
2. What causes these phenomenon?
3. What are the effects of these phenomenon to the lives of human beings?

C. Abstraction: 1. What is weathering?

2. What are the different types of weathering?
3. What is soil erosion?
4. How are the products of weathering carried away by erosion and deposited elsewhere?
5. What do we call the movement of particles downslope because of gravity?
6. How is soil formed?

D. Application: Being knowledgeable about the different exogenic processes that occur on the surface of the
earth will help us be prepared for what will happen to us especially those who build their
homes near places which are soil erosion-prone.

IV. EVALUATION: Pantomime:

Group the students into 4 groups.
Make each group pick from the following topic:
Weathering
Erosion
Mass Wasting
Sedimentation
The students then will act each of the exogenic processes using their bodies and the materials
available in the classroom.`
V. ASSIGNMENT: Identify the areas in your place where the following exogenic processes is likely to happen.
Submit a picture and a description of the process.
