Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: using Popplet will allow students to be engaged in the lesson through technology while
activating levels of Bloom’s Technology that results in students using higher order thinking skills.
Representation: Popplet allows students to create their product as low tech or high tech as they wish,
making it easier to differentiate the lesson.
Action and Expression: students are able to voice their opinions through their product and present it to the
class.

Lesson idea implementation:

This project based learning lesson idea will have students engaged due to the technology involved in this
lesson. After students have read The Giver by Lois Lowry, students will create their own plot diagram using
Popplet. In their Popplet, students will create a separate “box” or “comment” that defines each specific
element of the plot diagram and will define each one using their copy of the novel. After students have
created their Popplet, students will present their finished products to the class.

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)
To differentiate the lesson idea, students will have the choice to include pictures or graphics into their
Popplet but can also make it more simple by using just text. Student learning will be assessed through
students’ presentations of their Popplet and feedback will be emailed after each student presents. Students
will be extended to higher learning levels by using this tool.
Reflective Practice:

This activity will impact students learning by creating a thorough outline of the novel they have just read. This
activity is an excellent activity to use as a guideline and notes sheet for future activities that this information
can be used for. Technology tools that could further enhance this project are having students insert a Vimeo
into their Popplet.
