Everyone has a series of obstacles that they will have to face in their lifetime. Some obstacles will be set in a
period in time others will be given back to back. Some obstacles will seem easy others will have a series of steps
to follow before you can overcome it. For me it is hard to choose which is my biggest obstacle that I have been
faced with but, I have narrowed it down to family problems and the big move in cities I made. I am originally
from Los Angeles but moved to Sonoma summer before 8th grade. I have spent my entire childhood living in a
town called Pomona which is about 40 minutes from Downtown LA. When I lived in Pomona my mom would
have her ups and downs with her eldest sister. They would always get into fights, sometimes over the littlest
things. One day it was my cousin's 10th birthday and not only was he my mother's nephew but her godson so my
mom decided to set aside how she was feeling towards her sister but that night my aunt made a comment that
made my mom snap. That night not only changed how they acted with each other but it also affected all of us.
During this time we were living in apartments that my aunt had owned so it was easy for my sister and I to spend
time with our cousins. That night when my tia made her comment, they didn't fight like any of the other times,
no this time they actually laid hands on each other. My mother's other nephew, my aunt’s oldest son; who is like
a son and brother to me and my mom broke up the fight each sister had lost something no one should ever lose.
They lost a sister. Heated my mother went upstairs where she continued to argue with her sister over a valuable
gold chain my mother ripped of her neck. Embarrassed that lost of family and friends had to witness sisters night
i grabbed my sister from inside, said our goodbyes and went upstairs. They were never the same anymore, my
mom wouldn't let my sister go out with her godmother, she often wouldn't let me spend time with my cousins
and my mom would be tough when it came to paying the rent. I remember a couple of months when she sent me
down to pay it; in pennies, nickels, and dollar bills. My mother never did give her back the chain until the day she
moved out. The day she moved out she said goodbye to her sister and handed her the chain, they made up but
they aren't fully back to normal. They look now but it isn't a priority, just when necessary. My mother moved to
Sonoma with my step dad and sister about 3 months before I did, I still had to finish the school year to 7th grade.
Once I moved to Sonoma I still didn't feel at home even though I was sleeping in my room in my new house, it
just didn't seem real to me. I started middle school at Adele and I’d often keep to myself and stayed close to only
one “clique” and just some other class acquaintances. I was a big move and change in scenery. I had been
accustomed to always having something to do in a big town and houses on every block and lots of palms trees.
Sonoma on the other hand is all just grapes and such a small town. My mother decided to move us to Sonoma for
a better life opportunity and because her other sister had offered her a job at a plant nursery she had just bought
with her husband. So moving up before 8th grade and not really knowing any other kids my age I spent most of
my time there, helping out which I still do during any time we have vacation, weekends and after school.
Write a statement, in essay format (500 words minimum) about what you consider to be your strengths and/or
uniqueness. Do not state mere generalities. If you already have this information written for a prior application, you
