The Proverbs are frequently quoted or alluded to in the New Testament.

Here are some

correlating passages.
The following is a list of the principal passages.
1) Proverbs 1:16 compares with Romans 3:10,15. For their feet run to evil, and make
haste to shed blood. As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Their feet are
swift to shed blood.
2) Proverbs 3:7 compares with Romans 12:16. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the
LORD, and depart from evil. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high
things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
3) Proverbs 3:11-12 compares with Hebrews 12:5-6 and Revelations 3:19. My son,
despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom
the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. And ye
have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise
not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom
the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. As many as I
love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
4) Proverbs 3:34 compares with James 4:6. The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall
be the promotion of fools. But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth
the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
5) Proverbs 10:12 compares with 1 Peter 4:8. Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth
all sins. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall
cover the multitude of sins.
6) Proverbs 11:31 compares with 1 Peter 4:18. Behold, the righteous shall be
recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner. And if the righteous
scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
7) Proverbs 17:13 compares with Romans 12:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:15; 1 Peter 3:9.
Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house. Recompense to no
man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. See that none render evil
for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to
all men. Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing;
knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
8) Proverbs 17:27 compares with James 1:19-20. He that hath knowledge spareth his
words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Wherefore, my beloved
brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of
man worketh not the righteousness of God.
9) Proverbs 20:9 compares with 1 John 1:8. Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I
am pure from my sin? If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us.
10) Proverbs 20:20 compares with Matthew 15:4; Mark 7:10. Whoso curseth his father or
his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. For God commanded, saying,
Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the
death. For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or
mother, let him die the death.
11) Proverbs 22:8 compares with Galatians 6:7-9. He that soweth iniquity shall reap
vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for
whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of
the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life
everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we
faint not.
12) Proverbs 25:21-22 compares with Romans 12:20. If thine enemy be hungry, give him
bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire
upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed
him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
13) Proverbs 26:11 compares with 2 Peter 2:22. As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool
returneth to his folly. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog
is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the
mire.
14) Proverbs 27:1 compares with James 4:13-14. Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou
knowest not what a day may bring forth. Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we
will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a
vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
The book of the Proverbs contains mostly the words and sayings of King Solomon. We
read in the 1 Kings 4:29-32 that God gave him both great wisdom and understanding,
even like the sands of the seashore. "And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding
exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. And
Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the
wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman,
and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.
And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five." He was
given this great knowledge and wisdom because of God desire to bless His people. 1
Kings 3:3-12. "And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his
father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places. And the king went to Gibeon
to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did
Solomon offer upon that altar. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by
night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed
unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in
truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for
him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this
day. And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my
father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is
in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be
numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to
judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this
thy so great a people? And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this
thing. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for
thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine
enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have
done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so
that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee."
