Measurement Technology PowerLog chart table and harmonics Modes

The DCM 2000P utilises a Hall effect sensor for accurate
measurements. The magnetic circuit comprises the two
jaws and a gap which provides a concentration of the
magnetic flux at the Hall generator. The overall geometry
of the jaws and the gap has been designed such that the
measured value is not affected by an off-centre position
of the conductor. The magnetic characteristics of the
material used in the jaw tolerate overload currents up to
10,000 A without causing any disturbing residual
magnetism. A highly linear electric/magnetic conversion is
performed by the magnetic circuit, and a subsequent, The DCM2000P and PowerLog have been designed for

take a few seconds or several minutes. The test leads are firmly
connected to the item to be measured and the Test button is
pressed. The instrument will pass a current through the sample
and wait for the voltage to stabilise. If possible the current will be
increased. This procedure will be repeated until the voltage
detected falls into the range 15 mV to 200 mV. The instrument will
then continue to take readings, which will gradually decrease to
the true value as the voltage stabilises further. The operator
decides when the result is stable and presses the Test button to
terminate the test. Measurement is made with forward current only.

negated but speeds up the measurement process. Test starts
automatically when probes are connected.

DESCRIPTION Testing Unique Transformers

The Three-Phase Automatic TTR is designed to measure Many transformers are custom designed and have taps

design makes this TTR well suited for use in a variety of easily.
harsh environments. The TTR is also suited for testing
power transformers in manufacturing environments where
testing can be performed quickly (including storage of
results) while minimizing the possibility of errors.

COMLINK SOFTWARE
The TTR comes complete with a new powerful Windows®
based software program (ComLink), at no extra charge.
ComLink allows the operator to completely program a test
routine for a transformer, save it under the transformer ID
number and then recall it in the future as required.
ComLink performs tests at each “tap” and displays a
PASS/FAIL for the operator prior to storing them. This lets
the operator know the condition of the transformer on-site,
versus manually calculating PASS/FAIL after each test has
been completed. A sample of the test setup screen is
shown in Figure 1.

ComLink Test Report

The ComLink software also includes
a database management tool. This
allows the operator to save all
results and recall them as required
for analysis or quality control.
®
ComLink uses Microsoft Excel and
Access® to manage and display data.
Complete reports can be produced
showing critical data such as vector
configuration, transformer
connections, PASS/FAIL, header
information etc.
Using Excel, customers can select
the data to be included in any user-
defined reports. An example test
report is shown in Figure 2.
ComLink Remote Control
The ComLink software program
serves two main purposes as
described above. Its first function is
the uploading of data from the TTR,
Figure 2: Sample Test Report in Excel Format
generating an electronic test report
in Excel (or printed out as a hard
copy) which is then stored for
future review.
Second, the ComLink software also
allows the user to operate the TTR
by remote control. Control of the
TTR in this manner offers the
following benefits:
■ Easy to use interface between
operator and instrument.
■ Problems such as PASS/FAIL are
flagged visually using a RED
highlight (see Figure 3).
■ Easily recall transformer setups
from a custom settings menu (see
Figure 4). Figure 3: Sample Test Screen

■ Quickly download test results to

the PC for completing a
transformer test report.

ratio.
The major source of error in a transformer is a primary imped-
ance drop due to magnetizing current, which is kept to a
minimum by excitation at a fraction of rated voltage. By
employing a design that meets both of these conditions along
with the use of a null balance system, the turns ratio of a
transformer can be determined accurately.
When measuring the turns ratio of distribution and power
transformers, the accuracy is well within 0.1%.

A programmable logic controller (PLC) is at the heart of our state-

of-the-art control system. The PLC replaces many relays and other
electronic components previously required to control the
Transformer Test System. With fewer components, which can fail or
malfunction, the system reliability is increased considerably.
Maintenance, troubleshooting, and service are all made easier by
use of the PLC. Each time the system is powered up the PLC runs
through a self-test to insure proper operation then continues on to
perform a lamp test on the entire system. In addition Transformer
Test System operating procedures can be modified by
reprogramming the PLC rather than by rewiring the set. This means
that optional features can be added in the field at a much lower cost
than previously possible.
Operator Interface Device (OID) additional features.
The OID offers the ability for computer control of the test set.
• Utilizing the computer control feature
reduces the function of the operator to
selecting a test, connecting the leads to
the test specimen (instructions for lead
hook up displayed by software provided)
and initiating the test.
The system takes over from there, running the test,
recording the results and turning off the test set.
• Easy data transfer to a computer for data
storage and acquisition via a com port.
• Allows customization for automatic
testing and the ability to program safety
interlocks to protect the test specimen as
well as the test set.

individual PD Pulses.
The software contains a dedicated ‘Machines’ Module dedicated to the measurement of PD
Data in Rotating HV Motors and Generators.

PD sensors at once.

ScopeControlReader© PD Pulse Analysis and Reportage Software

This reads the individual PD pulses collected by the ScopeControl© software from up to 4
channels simultaneously enabling the user to carry out post-test analysis of the PD data
collected in the field.
A PC version of this software is also provided to allow post-analysis of the PD Data on any
PC owned by the customer.

Free upgrades on the above software packages are provided for 12-months from the date of
purchase. Software support packages are available beyond this 12-month period on request.

PDGold©
The PDGold© program (Main Page shown below) contains all the functions that allow control
of the OSM-Longshot instrument, to set the correct values of the acquisition parameters, to
acquire and visualise the PD dataset in order to get an immediate diagnostic response.

PDGOLD© PD ACQUISITION SOFTWARE - MAIN PAGE

The PDGold© software collects the PD data in 200x ‘slots’ across the 50Hz (or 60Hz) power
cycle, one cycle at a time, followed by a processing stage of a few seconds, followed by the
acquisition and processing of a second cycle and so on.
Each signal acquired is synchronised by the AC mains voltage waveform supply (or other
volatge signal). The software thus allows the user to observe this 360o plot of the PD
behaviour showing both the individual 20ms ‘shots’ and the cumulative measurements of all
those taken up to that point, in ‘real-time’.
For the standard PDGold© measurement this would be left to run typically for 3 to 5 minutes
with around 100 to 200 individual power cycles usually saved.

the maximum performance out of the OSM technology.

Page 3 of 6 June 2007

1.0 OSM-Longshot© PD Spot Testers
OSM PD Spot Testers listed contain the Standard PDGold© Software which has used been
used in the IPEC PD Spot Testers for the past 5 years.

• The PD Gold© Software’s functionality includes:

Capture of signals synchronously across the 50Hz (or 60Hz) power cycle
Provides a PD (partial discharge) threshold level for recording the number of pulses (count)
per cycle

• Noise waveforms using a second channel can be used for ‘gating’ external pulsed
interference
The software divides the power period into slots, and the peak signal is then detected for
each slot, allowing the user to observe familiar phase-related patterns of discharge.
PD levels are given in mV and dB as standard and also in pC for cable testing when used
with calibrated HFCT’s.

• A new event recogniser system is incorporated into the analysis software

Keeps segments of the PD waveforms
Classifies these PD pulses into three types: Cable PD, Switchgear PD and Noise.
This can often eliminate the need for background noise reduction.
A machine page is available for testing high voltage rotating machines (motors/generators)

• Full print preview page for outputting results to printers or adobe pdf files
The spot tester is designed for a wide variety of use including on-line PD Testing of the
insulation in HV Cables, Switchgear, Transformers, Motors/Generators and other HV Plant.
It is very able to measure on-line PD activity, and the system is offered with a variety of
sensors for this type of work.
The system is also capable of accurate laboratory measurements, where synchronous
voltage measurements and PD calibrations are needed. The time for which measurements
can be recorded is only limited by the internal RAM of the PC.
It is not unusual to run the system for several hours up to a week, with continuous data
monitoring.

The 1.0 OSM-Longshot© PD Spot Testers unit is not sold primarily as a monitoring device
(it’s primary use being PD ‘Spot Testing’.
These spot testers are not specifically designed to be permanently installed and driven
remotely, and whilst this is entirely feasible, other options are available for the permanent
monitoring application.
The PDGold© Longshot system can be considered as the most versatile (and best) PD spot
testing device on the market.
It is generally regarded that PD monitoring should be carried out by permanently installed PD
Monitors with web/remote access (for information on long-term PD Monitoring Technologies
contact your supplier).

The applications for on-line testing tend to be plant specific. Hence there are cable related
parts to the event recogniser analysis. Here the results can be expressed in pC so that
discharges on all cable types, and at all detectable distances down the cable, can be
compared in magnitude.
There are also switchgear related parts to this, where the results can be expressed in dB to
relate back to the traditional way switchgear PD results were displayed.

Optional features
Process controls 1) FOAM REGULATION SYSTEM
The foam regulation system automatically regulates foam developing and avoids the saturation of the degazing unit.
2) INSULATING SYSTEM
This option enables, in case of incident or any sudden treatment stopping (power cut), to insulate the plant from the electric appliance
to be treated and thus to prevent from dangerous oil flowing into the oil treatment plant.
3) HIGH LEVEL DETECTION SYSTEM
This option enables the automatic stop of the plant, when the valve, which protects the vacuum pump, is full. This reinforced safety
and avoids the transfer of the condensates in the vacuum pump.
4) AUTOMATIC DRAINING OF THE VALVE
This option enables an optimal protection of the vacuum network of the plant.
5) VOLTMETER / AMPERE METER
This option will enable you to visualize the feeding tension of the plant as well as the developed intensity in order to protect the net-
work and the equipment.
6) RECORDER
This option ables to record the physical dimensions, characterizing the degazing process, like the temperature and the vacuum.
7) QUALITY CONTROL OF OILS

The presentations 1) CART

The oil treatment can be installed on a cart with full tyres (max speed : 20 km/h).
2) ROAD TRAILER
The oil treatment plant can be installed on a road trailer. The trailer can be equipped with rear lights in accordance with the EU regu-
lations of road code. The whole installation is commissioned by the French government vehicle testing service to be allowed to circu-
late in France and European countries.
3) TARPAULIN PROTECTION
The plant can be equipped with a protection type tarpaulin, which protects it from the bad weather.
The tarpaulin can be opened on the four side panels to enable the access to all the components of the plant.
4) METALLIC COVER PROTECTION
The plant can be equipped with a metallic cover type protection, which protects it from the bad weather. It is made of a frame, side
panels and openings on the sides. The openings can be closed per key and enable the access to the main components of the plant.

The transformers drying 1) TRANSFORMER DRYING

(The vacuum technology) This option enables to make vacuum in the transformer in order to dry the active parts while the oil is treated. The pump is installed
parallel to the first one to increase the pumping capacity of the plant.
2) DOUBLE STAGE PUMPING GROUP
In case of this option, the primary vacuum pump mounted on the plant is completed with a second pump stage composed of a roots.
3) AUXILIARY VACUUM CONNECTION
This option enables to have an additional vacuum connection on the plant.
4) CONDENSOR AND COOLING GROUP
This option enables an optimal protection of the pump group in case of high water content treatment.

The transformers drying 1) TRANSFER PUMP

(Oil heating and transfer) This option enables to increase the hoses length between the plant and the transformer.
2) HIGHER HEATING POWER
The standard heating power of the oil treatment plants has been calculated for a weight ratio between oil and trans-
former about 4. In case of a higher ratio, we recommend to increase the heating power of the plant.
3) AUXILIARY HEATING CONNECTION
This option enables to have an additional heating connection. It allows to heat the transformer per oil circulation through the plant
heater.
4) SAFETY LEVEL ON TRANSFORMER
This option is installed on the upper part of the transformer to control the variations of the oil level in this one.
5) CONNEXION FEATURES AND ACCESSORIES
