1. Solar Energy - Solar energy comes from the sun, there are many ways to harness solar energy
and one is by using a solar panel to convert solar energy to electricity.
Advantages:
It is a Renewable source of energy, it has many uses, and costs less to maintain.
Disadvantages:
It initially expensive and it is weather dependent.

2. Wind Energy - Wind energy can be harnessed by using wind turbines, which are usually placed in
a windy area. The wind turns the turbine then the turbine generates mechanical power.
Advantages:
Wind energy is cost effective, it’s a clean source of energy and it is sustainable.
Disadvantages:
Wind turbines might cause noise and aesthetic pollution; turbine blades can damage local
wildlife.

3. Geothermal Energy - Geothermal energy is heat from the earth. Geothermal energy can be
obtained about 150-200 meters below the ground.
Advantages:
The output power of a geothermal plant can be accurately predicted, it also releases
significantly lower carbon emission.
Disadvantages:
Geothermal plants may release the greenhouse gas below the earth’s surface, geothermal
reservoirs can only be found on specific parts of the earth.

4. Hydrogen energy - Hydrogen energy can be found in water (H2O). Once it is separated it can be
turned into fuel for generating electricity or fuel for vehicles, ships, and rockets.
Advantages:
Hydrogen energy does not leave any toxic emissions and more efficient than other energy
sources.
Disadvantages:
Hydrogen energy is expensive to produce and it is also highly flammable.

5. Tidal Energy – Tidal energy comes from the rising and falling of tides. The kinetic energy from
the coming and going of tides is converted into electrical energy.
Advantages:
It is a renewable source of energy, does not need fossil fuel to run and costs low to run.
Disadvantages:
Tidal energy plants is expensive to construct and can only be placed in limited locations.

6. Wave Energy – Wave energy is produced by the waves from the seas or oceans. It can be
harnessed near coastal areas.
Advantages:
It is environment friendly and also very abundant.
Disadvantages:
Wave energy gathering equipment affects the marine life around it.
7. Hydroelectric Energy – Hydroelectric energy can be obtained from the flow of water. The flow of
water is used to turn generators to produce electricity.
Advantages:
It is a reliable source of energy and has a low cost of maintenance and operation/
Disadvantages:
Construction of dams destroys the habitat of the wildlife around it and it is also expensive to
build.

8. Biomass Energy – Biomass energy is obtained from organic materials. It can be used for heating
and cooking in homes.
Advantages:
Biomass energy reduces the need for fossil fuel. It is also cheaper than fossil fuel.
Disadvantages:
Biomass energy can release gasses that can harm the ozone layer. It is also inefficient compared
to fossil fuel.

9. Nuclear Power – Nuclear energy is created by nuclear reactions which will be collected and used
to power generators.
Advantages:
Nuclear Power emits low amounts of carbon dioxide. It can also generate high amount of
electrical energy.
Disadvantages:
Nuclear power produces radioactive waste which is extremely dangerous. The energy source for
nuclear energy is scarce.

10. Fossil Fuels – Fossil fuel consists of coal, oil, and Natural gas which are non-renewable sources of
energy. Fossil fuel provides the power for majority of the world.
Advantages:
Fossil fuel is easy to find and is also abundant in some places. It is also efficient since it can
generate a huge amount of energy from a small amount of fossil fuel.
Disadvantages:
Fossil fuel causes pollution and is not environment friendly. Fossil fuel in non-renewable which
means it will be used up in the future.
