CP Required: 240
Min FT Duration: 5.00 Years
Min PT Duration: N/A
Faculty/School: Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies
Years Offered: 2017, 2016, 2015
2. REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for the award of the combined degree, a candidate must successfully complete 240 credit points, comprising:
(a) 156 credit points from the Bachelor of Information Technology stream, including 12 credit points from the units specified for a particular
stream.
(b) for the Bachelor of Arts component, 84 credit points of Table A units as listed in the handbook of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences,
including a major from Table A and a minimum 54 credit points of 2000/3000 level units of study. The Table A units of study list can be found
online at http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/arts/units_of_study/table_a.shtml
Progression requirement
Candidates in the BIT degree must maintain a credit average in each year of enrolment. If this level of result is not achieved candidates will be
transferred to the BCST degree program.
Advanced alternatives
Candidates may substitute an advanced equivalent for a non- advanced unit mentioned. They may also substitute an appropriate unit from the
Advanced Engineering program of the Faculty of Engineering; or the Talented Student Program of the Faculty of Science; if they are eligible to
enrol in such units.
Streams
Completion of a stream is a requirement of the course. Candidates have the option of completing up to two streams. Candidates must follow the
progression of study as prescribed by the table of units of study for the stream. Units of study counted towards one stream may not count
toward any other stream completed. The streams available are: (a) Computer Science and (b) Information Systems.
See Pathways section of this outline for the units presecribed for each stream. See Semesters section for recommended enrolment sequence.
Honours
Honours is available to meritorious candidates, in either or both the Bachelor of Information Technology or the Bachelor of Arts. Honours
requires the completion an alternative set of units in the final year of the Bachelor of Information Technology degree and of one additional full
time year of study for the Bachelor of Arts degree.
Admission to the honours program for the Bachelor of Information Technology is by permission of the program coordinator prior to completion
of the final year. Admission requires an average (ISWAM) of at least 65 in units of study completed to that point. Candidates must complete the
requirements for the pass degree but include the alternative 24 credit point honours pathway described in the table of units for the degree, with
24 credit points in 5000-level recommended units of study and achieve an Honours Result of 65 or above. Completion of the degree is required
in the minimum standard full time duration.
Admission and award requirements for honours in the Bachelor of Arts are listed in the resolutions of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Course Resolutions
The Bachelor of Information Technology governed by the course resolutions of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies,

http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/arts/
Note: Continuing students should note that the 2015 BIT combined degree enrolment table shown here differs from previous years by bringing
the Computer Science and Informations Systems streams together, rather than treating as separate courses. The merging of the stream details
was done to to make it easier for students to compare the different requirements of each stream, and see where the requirements are the same in
both cases. Apart from this change, the BIT remains as it was before.
