Abstract—Thepopular reminders are based on electronic the petrol pump. This has motivated to design location based

In current busy life style people have to perform variety of
task in their day to day life like meeting at work, buying Web Service
groceries, filling petrol after work etc. We generally use paper
notes and now a days reminder system in mobile phones.
Google Task of
Various tasks can be categorize as follows: Maps Interest

1. Task which is Time based

Data
2. Task which is Location based Synchronization

In “Time based tasks” the task which is starting at a GPS

specific time eg.Meeting which is scheduled at 11 AM. We set Coordinator
reminders in our mobile for the same. On the otherhand, in
“Location based reminder” the task to be performed at specific
location, like filling up the petrol while going back home from SQLite
office. In such case setting alarm onlyby time might not be
beneficial if useris not certain when he/she willbe passing by Fig. 1 Architecture of proposed system

For adding locations for specific tasks into the database , the
application uses Google Maps. By picking up the desired
locationwhich is showing on Google Maps , user can add
the desired task into the database. This will be usedfor
setting reminder in Location Based reminder application.

It is not necessary for the user to physically present at the

specific location while entering the reminder in the
application.

III. IMPLEMENTATION
Following are the important steps of operation in the
suggested Location based reminder application.
Step 1.Identification of locations for which reminder is to
be set by the user.
Step 2. Creation of location-based reminders by user
Step 3.Alert will be given when user is at the defined Fig. 3: Flow chart of adding location in the application
location by the application.

reminders

to the tasks to be done
1. Delivering messages at appropriate times: Suppose a lady
goes to the milk center every evening on her while coming
back from work, at that point location based reminder delivers
her messages. She may find it irritating if she receivewhile
going to work because she don’t want to pick milk while
going to work. So it is necessary to mention that she only

wants alerts at specific times of the day. Therefore using time C) Set Reminder
based constraints is necessary .eg. After 7.30 pm[2].

2. Deliver messages according to the travel patterns of the

user: Many times a user may receive a message for the any
reminder when user is within a peripheral of the location or
at opposite side . But the user find it easy to go to the desired
place when the user is passes ort in front of the location. The
application has to consider the user’s travelling path .
Calculating just the straight-line distance between points may
give false alert[2].

Finding nearby places:

This is additional feature introduced in the android

application. If user is at new place & wish to find out the
ATM near to his location, this feature helps in finding the
desired location.
Algorithm:
1. Asks whether to switch ON the GPS if not.
2. Asks whether to use current locations
3. If yes ; GPS identifies current location.
4. If No; retrieves last used location
5. Enter the place of interest
6. Searches the nearby places & gives the list.

V. CONCLUSION

In the modern life style people are very busy & often forgets
the tasks to do. Many times people remembers the task after
they pass by the location of interest. Going back to the specific
locationagain is time consuming & tiring too.

This application helps the user to reach at exact location of

interest in his preferred time slot. Timely reminder reduces
chances of missing the location of interest & task to be
reminded can be performed on desired timeand atdesired
location . This reduces time loss &disappointment .

Identifying desired nearby places is on figure tips of the user

if the current location is unknown to the user . The application
makes the search easy & faster .

VI. FUTURE SCOPE

This project can be extended to indoor reminder systems using

WLAN. The application can also be utilized for tourist
guiding system..
