SOUTH KOREA
South Korea is a country located on the East Asia. It was formerly a unified country
with North Korea, and now they separated due to civil war in 1950-1953. The motto of
the country is“Benefit broadly in the human world/Devotion to the Welfare of Humanity.”
In 2017, the population of the country is 51,446,201. Even though South Korea is not
a huge country, there are various things that makes South Korea a distinguishable
country.

The national and official language of South Korea is Korean, it is from “Koreanic”
family language. This language is also spoken extensively in Yanbian in northeastern
China. Approximately 80 million people worldwide speak Korean.

The thing that people around the world most known about South Korea is their culture.
South Korea is a country of pride with it’s unique traditions and culture. They have
history of more than 5000 years. The results of several studies show that many
international societies do not understand Korean history correctly and information about
the history is still relatively scarce.

South Korea culture and entertainment has been spreading all around the world,
especially in Asia. One of the way they influenced their culture globally is by using
the entertainment. As we can see, South Korea have lots kind of entertainment like K-pop,
TV Dramas, Movies, Musical Theater, and etc. K-pop is an epitome of Korean Pop, which
in K-pop they have lots of band familiar to us like Girls Generation, Super Junior,
Bigbang, and EXO. Beside K-pop, one of their entertainment that influence the world is
TV Dramas. Lots of South Korea TV dramas have been succeed overseas, like Epic High,
Dream High, and Boys Over Flowers.

When we wacthed Korea’sTV Dramas, the scene that we will always see is when they
eat Korean foods. The foods in South Korea is one of the thing that cannot be missed.
The most distinguishing feature of the Korean food is the spiciness. Their basic
seasonings is red pepper, green onion, soy sauce, bean paste, garlic, ginger, sesame,
mustard, vinegar, wine, and etc. One of the most famous Korean food is kimchi, Korea's
staple side dish which along with rice, accompanies almost every meal with it’s unique
sour-spicy taste. Beside the kimchi, South Korea have another famous food such as
Tteokbokki (Stir fried rice cake), Bulgogi (Barbecued beef), and Oden (Fish cake). While
Korean eat their meal, they rarely drink anything but a little water of poricha (Barley

Tea). However, when they are going to “drink” they have wide variety of beverages.
Top 3 of their beverages is coffee, tea, and beer. Aside from beer, Korea has many
different types of traditional alcoholic drinks, with Soju being the most popular.

South Korea trends of fashion originally didn't evolve from a year 1945-1970 because
people assume that the fashion world is connected with luxury and extravagance. Therefore,
they just focus in the field of economy until finally, at the beginning of the year 2000
the people of South Korea following a west trend and still adapted their style fashion
shades of futuristic. From there, they got to know the style of dress indie that mix
all kinds of clothes like skinny jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, and canvas shoes with
colorful, portray the vintage and modern vibes. South Korea’s fashion is growing rapidly
and can be accepted globally. 2010 it’s the year of freedom in fashion or remodel their
own clothes to style like hipster. South Korea has became the arena of creativity. They
also had been show themselves in the festival fashion like " Seoul Fashion Week Fall
2015 ", that Young designers are able to show their design to global. The most current
trend is the casual street style. The purpose of it’s style is to make the simple look
but still look chic.

Not only the trend of fashion, South Korea also has a very charming beauty of nature .
There are also a lot of historical landmarks of the past of this nation. South Korea
is one of the oldest country in the world who have a history of empire. And now, the
buildings are being visited by the tourists. Tourists favorite destination are iconic
places like the N Seoul Tower, Gyeongbokgung palace, Hanok village, Jinhae-gu, Nami
Island, and Jeju Island. The famous shopping places are Myeongdong, Insadong, Dongdaemun
and Namdaemun.

And last is about military situation in South Korea. Compulsory military or

compulsory national service authorized in South Korea, with military service stated in
Chapter II Article 39 of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea for all citizens.
The current Military Law, enacted in 1965, however, applies only to men, aged between
18 and 35, although women are allowed to enroll in the Reserve Officers Training Corps
in 2010.
