AKNOWLEDGEMENTS

1
First of all, praise be to Allah, Lord of all creation, for helping me reach this level, along

with the people around me how assist me in my journey to finish my bachelor degree in

accounting and that includes many people, most importantly, I would like to thank the

closest people to my heart; my family who were there for me and supporting me in this

exciting educational journey.

The last step of the journey is the internship that helps to establish the connection

between the educational theories and the application, if the managers in the internship

don’t give the time and effort to help the students then the time passed and is wasted, but

not in my case, the internship was conducted in AADC, and the employees and managers

were very supportive and caring, and didn’t want me to lose my precious time and they

gave effort and time even though they are already occupied and busy.

So I would like to show and give my profound appreciation to the field supervisor “

Maha Ahmed Almansouri” For her patients and guidance, I also would like to thank the

manager of the AADC branch Mrs. “Thamna Hadef Alameri” head of unit, for helping

me and making sure that I was trained properly.

The internship is a two face journey with two guidance, the field guidance and the

academic one, so I would like to thank Doctor Faisal Al Shamari for his guidance and his

effort and caring for the my well-being in the internship and making sure I was trained

and not losing time and that the working environment is stable and comfortable.

ABSTRACT

2
The internship was conducted in AADC “ Al Ain Destitution Company” and it’s half

governmental institute and highly respected with separated divisions, they have given me

a huge opportunity to know and to apply a variety of activities not only in the required

specialization which is accounting. And it has given me the chance to connect the theory

with the application and to know how they apply the accounting principles and basis in

the real life work environment.

The internship lasted for 8 interesting weeks that provided me with many skills and it was

among department, I have trained in the accounting department, Finance department and

HR department, which is perfect because it have helped to know how different

department give input to each other and how they are connected and if a department is

missing then the work can’t be done.

During the internship, there was an observation period were I watched the employees

work and observe to get used to the environment and the way they do work, and the main

benefit of training in AADC is that they have a unique system that can’t be learned

externally, you have to deal with this system in the workplace and it’s the ORACLE

system and others like MAXIMO and CC&B.

I would like to show my appreciation to the company because they did their best in

training me, so I do advice other students to choose AADC or to be at their top priority to

train at.

responsible & cost-effective manner.

Values

 Commitment to Shareholders

 Commitment to Customers

 Commitment to People (employees)

4
 Teamwork and Trust

 Excellence

 Ethical Behavior & Integrity

 Corporate Social Responsibility

AADC (Al Ain Distribution company” was on the top priority in my list for internship,

and I was really hoping to get accepted, it’s a big company with separated department

and was highly recommended to me by other colleagues “students”, and it’s known for its

exceptional training program, they don’t accept students unless they have the capacity

and the time to train them so losing time is out of the picture and that is what is required

so I applied there and I got accepted, it’s was a unique experience and I would choose the

place again.

2. Internship Experience

The internship experience will be separated into three sections, Finance department,

Human resource department and customer service department.

2.1 Finance Department

For this section, I had a quick rotation due to the occupation of the unit and they

were very busy in this time, but however I have received a quick overview about

their main activities.

The financial department in AADC is divided into financial accounts section and

management accounts system each of them deals with different activities.

5
Management account sections: this section deals with the operational activities

and the budgeting process, observing the consumption and the performance

during the period as well as collecting money or paying to others.

Financial Account Section (FAS) this section deals with the accounting records of

the company and the recording of the various transactions of the company’s

operational activities. Like salaries, sales, bank reconciliation, deprecation and

others, and all the recording is in accordance with IFRC for sure.

2.2 HR department

The HR department is an integral part of any institution, if the labor is hired in a

manner that is not serous and not studies and random, then the work will fail, the

business will rise with no complications when you out the right person in the

right place and that is the HR department work and they don’t only do that, but

they are also in charge for reviewing the allowed the absents and other.

In this department I learned several tasks such as:

- Logging into the ORACLE system with the user name and password.

- Using the ORACLE system to review the employees absents and attendance

wither they were being late or not and reviewing the paper work to find the

excuse if it’s found.

- Also one the main functions of HR which is the recruitment were it starts by

looking for the right person and how they read the different CV’s they

receive for the empty vacancies they have.

6
- Most importantly they read the CV very carefully because they think of it as

an indication for the person they are going to recruit and if they are suitable

for the position wither it was the experience or the degree the participant has.

- I also learned some of the main question they have when they interview the

possible employee and to send the employee to the section manager to do an

assessment because the manager knows what kind of ability he needs in his

section so the approval of the employee also must come from the manager.

- I also learned about the offers and the allowances and they write the job offer

for the candidates and the allowances and the conditions, for example it a

new employee, in the first six months any absence will be cut form the salary

even if there is a medical sick leave while old employees usually has hours

to come late or to not show up.

- I also learned the average salary for curtain positions and that the basic

salary is different than the allowance.

- Also in the HR department, it’s mandatory to upload the employees full

information including the family information and their passports and ID’s

copy’s and the information is uploaded to the new ORACLE system and the

system is connected with the passport authority and that applies to Emiratis

and expatriates alike.

- Also I learned how to order supplies for the office and the things needed like

tea, water and such

- I also learned how to do the form for getting the employees sizes for their

uniforms and to send emails for these requests and so on.

7
- Also to keep on checking the safety of the work place and the equipment’s

for it

- I had an important task and that is to review the Etisalat Bills for the

employees and to check them with the Excel sheet and to compare for any

differences and if everything is systematic and there are no errors we send

them to the finance department for payment after the approval.

2.3 Customer service

As for the customer service division, it wasn’t the main activity of my internship

but I did how take a quick rotation just to know it’s main activities.

Basically it’s the biggest unit in AADC and it include four section “customer

support, sales support, services support and call center of course the main

objective for the four section is to deliver proper service for the citizens in al ain

and to get companies and deal with them in a limited time period. They deal

with various issues like giving some customer time for paying bills or take

customers complaints and deal with them and to give top priority for customers

with power cuts because it happens under an “emergency” some customers asks

for refund and there is a curtain process for each case.

3. Conclusion

To conclude, the internship was an exceptional experience with many different skills that

I have obtained during the period, it have been a satisfying experience and it has fulfilled

its goal and that is to teach the student how to act in real life working environment and to

teach patience and other skills, it also helped me in many ways not only by learning new

8
things and skills but it also developed my ability to interact with people in the workplace

and to be active and to have an opinion and a voice and that is very important.

So basically I learned a variety of tasks and I was very happy with the rotation they gave

me because I’m an accountant student but I have worked in several departments and that

helped to get the bigger picture and how the work cycle happens and how department

give each other input and output and if there is a missing link then the work is stopped

and paused.

Some of the obstacles I have faced is the time management were I have struggled at the

begging because the training is a responsibility and it means punctuality and waking in

the morning and time consuming so it means less time for my study and for the university

requirements and my assignments and that have game a problem but I worked things out

later on. At the end I really recommend other students to put AADC in there top priority

for internship, it has been a special experience.
