COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL
FV-0580 and FV-0581
Description
The FV-0580 and FV-0581are airborne switchers designed to control images from external and/or internal cameras
installed on board an aircraft.
The design is intended primarily to satisfy the low cost requirement for a Video Switch Unit to be used with the FV-
0835 6” LCD monitor as part of the CabinVu 123 system. The unit is, however to be designed in such a way that it
may be applicable to a wider range of aircraft.
Where
x = P for PAL or x = N for NTSC
zz = 50 for 50 ohms input or zz = 75 for 75 ohms input
y = B for balanced video input; U for unbalanced video input;
k = L for legacy systems; N for normal systems
mm = 50 for 50 ohms output or mm = 75 for 75 ohms output
n = B for balanced video output or n = U for unbalanced video output
A. General
1.1 The FV-0580 and FV-0581 are airborne switchers designed to control images from external and/or internal
cameras installed on board an aircraft.
1.2 The design is intended primarily to satisfy the a low cost requirement for a Video Switch Unit to be used with
the LCD monitors as part of the CabinVu 123 system. The unit is, however, to be designed in such a way that it
may be applicable to a wider range of aircraft.
1.3 The unit is mounted in the cabin overhead panelling.
B. Electrical Specification
2.1.1 Video
2.1.2 The units accept video from up to 4 cameras (FV-0580) or 8 cameras (FV-0581), each on its own connector.
2.1.3 The cameras may be PAL or NTSC standard (specified at time of order).
2.1.4 The unit caters for both unbalanced and balanced video (specified at time of order).
2.1.5 Input Termination is defined by the PIN number.
2.1.6 The units are to output two channels of balanced composite video, at a termination dependent on the part number.
These are to be able to be selected independently, and are to each have OSD camera titling.
2.1.7 Each of the two channels has two independent video outputs, so can support two monitors which will each have
duplicated video data.
2.1.8 The Legacy or Normal system is defined by the PIN number.
In Legacy system, input video channels are selected by individual external inputs using rotary switches.
In Normal system, input video channels are selected by external inputs using momentary toggle switches.
2.1.9 An OSD function is included in the design to enable text to be defined, and superimposed on the video. It is
possible to program different text for the NORMAL selection of a camera, and for the ALARM selection of the
same camera. The text is to be stored in EEPROM
2.1.10 Control for the OSD set up is achieved via an RS232 link that is externally accessible through the Serial Port
connections on the Main Connector SK1.
2.1.11 There are 8 General Purpose Inputs, which can be used to override current Channel selections, or to change the
OSD text overlaid.
2.1.12 There are two On/Off inputs, which when grounded cause power to be applied to the FV-0580 or FV-0581 unit.
When released, power is again disconnected from the FV-0580 or FV-0581.
2.2.0 Power
2.2.1 The unit will run from 28V dc to aircraft specification (per ED-14E\RTCA DO160E).
2.2.2 Internal circuit protection is provided via a 0.5 Amp resettable fuse, fitted on the PCB.
2.2.3 The power drawn is to be a maximum of 500mA from the 28V source.
2.2.4 There is to be a front panel mounted LED, indicating POWER
2.2.5 28V power is supplied at each of the camera connectors, fused at 0.2A.
2.2.6 MTBF…………….50,000 Hours
C. Mechanical Specification
3.0.0 There is no requirement for forced air cooling, and no provision of fans within the unit..
3.0.1 The unit has all connections on one side of the box.
3.0.2 The unit is able to be fitted in any of the 3 dimensions, by using different mechanical mounts.
3.0.3 Overall Dimensions of the Box 275mm x 176mm x 60mm
3.0.4 Maximum weights; 1000g for the FV-0580 and 1100g for the FV-0581.

F. EMI/Environmental Qualification
OPERATION
General
The FV-0580 and FV-0581 is powered by 28Vdc input from the DC non-essential bus via the main 39 pin connector
SK1. The unit distributes the 28VDC to all the other Individual CabinVu 123 units, it also comprises of video
switching for up to 4 or 8 video inputs and OSD (On Screen Display) circuitry.
N.B. With the power switch on the FV-1050 set to “Standby” 28VDC is available to this unit only and not to any other
associated component of this system, ie FV-0410 or FV-0835.
TESTING
1.0 Introduction
This document specifies how to test the FV-0580 and FV-0581 Video Switch Unist.
Ensure that the FV-0580 or FV-0581 pcb (FV05 PCB, same for both units) is correctly terminated for the required
System Specification, and that the test sources are also driven from the same resistance.
Ensure that the FV-0580 or FV-0581 is of the correct video standard for the required system specification, as are the
test sources.
PERFORM FINAL CONFIDENCE TEST WITH COMPLETE CABINVU 123 SYSTEM (FV-0410, FV-0835, FV-
1050 with the FV-0580 0r 0581) ALL CONNECTED.
FAULT ISOLATION
Check the current from the 28VDC supply. It should be 100mA +/-10mA. (without any cameras or monitors
connected)
IF no current is drawn suspect the PCB-580IA
Otherwise suspect the the PCB-FV05
8CAMB PCB or
4CAMB PCB
DISASSEMBLY
All threads have been secured using a locking adhesive where necessary on initial assembly and therefore will
require careful removal to avoid damage to threaded components.
Observe ESD Protection requirements
1. Remove Lid (5) from box section (40) by loosening screws (10).
2. Disconnect all cableforms (250 to 254 and 25) from PCBs (15), (20) and (30).
3. Extract the two crimp terminations from the Molex connector of cableform (25), loosen nut and washer from LED
and remove from Box section (40).
4. Loosen screws (10) and remove MILCPCB (20) from box section (40).
5. Loosen screws (10) and remove Camera Interface PCB (15) from box section (40).
6. Loosen screws (35) and remove PCB-FV05B (30) from box section (40).
CLEANING
The FV-0580 or FV-0581 should be cleaned externally using cleaning solvents or solutions normally used by the
airline company. Care should be taken when cleaning so as not to allow the cleaning solution to contaminate the pin
contacts of any connectors.
Do not allow dirt to be ingested into the unit.
CHECKS
REPAIR
Repair of this unit should only be carried out by an approved workshop facility.
Should the following diagnosis and repairs not resolve any particular problem the unit should be returned to the
original manufacturer.
1. Secure the PCB-FV05B (30) to stand offs in Box Section (40) using screws (35).
2. Secure Camera Interface PCB (15) to internal long side of Box (40) using screws (10).
3. Secure the MILCPCB (20) to inside of box section (40) using screws (10).
4. Fit LED assembly (25) into appropriate aperture in box section (40) and secure using nut (supplied), insert crimp
terminations into Molex connector and fit onto FV05B PCB (30).
5. Connect all PCBs (30), (15) and (20) with remaining interconnecting cableforms (250 to 254).
6. Secure lid (5) to box section (40) using screws (10).
STORAGE
All units shall be stored in the protective packing in which they are supplied.
Before any unit enters service and is fitted to an aircraft a functional test should be carried out.
Torque settings
All fixing screws and nuts are to be tightened to the follows torques;
• M2 Nuts and Screws to 0.14 NM with no liquid locking or 0.1NM with a liquid locking adhesive.
• M3 Nuts and Screws to 0.51NM with no liquid locking or 0.38NM with a liquid locking adhesive.
• 4-40UNC Screws to 0.51NM with no liquid locking or 0.38NM with a liquid locking adhesive.
