This course will primarily focus on reading comprehension,
grammar, writing, and essential vocabulary for
understanding and analyzing works of literature
Students will develop this proficiency through studying a
variety of genres including:
Novels, poetry, plays, short stories, and non-fiction
informational texts.
Students will also complete several types of writing
including:
Argumentative, explanatory/Informational, narrative,
and literary analysis
• You will need to complete the green late work form-
complete with assignment name, due date, date
submitting, an explanation of why your work is late,
and how to make it not happen again
• If NO FORM is submitted, late work will not be
accepted
Each student will receive a “Request for Extra Time” sheet
to be used on any assignment except for tests (These
should be used sparingly as you will receive ONE per
semester

Discipline Plan
The Code of Student Conduct identifies the behaviors
listed below as Class I offenses: Disturbances on school
premises, Cheating, Lying, Abusive language not related to
racial or ethnic abusive language, Name-calling, Dress
code violation, Public display of affection, Hall pass
violation, ID violation
Step 1: Private conference with student to identify inappropriate
behavior
Step 2: Phone call to parent
Step 3: Classroom detention
Teacher vs. Students
Points will be awarded to classes for positive behavior
(students) and for unwanted behavior the teacher will
receive those points. The points will be tallied for
whole class rewards at the end of the quarter.
Bathroom Policy
Each student will receive a bathroom pass
with 5 bathroom punches per semester – At
the end of the semester they may be redeemed
In the event that a student runs out of bathroom passes,
they can serve a lunch or morning detention to make up
for the lost time
To use the Bathroom you must redeem one of your punches, sign
out in your planner, and sign out via the bathroom clipboard- DO
NOT under any circumstances use someone else's’ planner
Earn and Return Cards
Every student will receive a Earn & Return card with 9 punches
on it. This card will be used to reward positive daily behavior,
leadership, and teamwork
When redeeming, students will be eligible for a
