Exploring the Human Body

WebQuest Handout

*You will use the information in this handout to guide you

through your online journey of exploring the Human Body.

*At the end of this journey, you, along with your group
members, will present a final presentation of your chosen
topic.
Introduction:
How you ever wondered how your body functions? What happens inside your body that
helps you to eat, run, breathe, and fight sickness? We are now going to begin learning
about the human body. It is important that we understand how our body functions, so
we can take better care of it and grow up to be strong and healthy!

Task:
Each part of your body has a specific job, so today you are going to be "Doctors in
Training" and will explore and learn about the different organs within the body. You will
be working in teams of three, and each group will pick one of the following organs to
research.

Organs:
heart
brain
stomach
lungs
liver
kidneys
skin

Each "Doctor" in the group will be responsible for knowing the following information
about each organ:

Where is the organ located in the body?

What does the organ look like?
What is the function of the organ?
Why is this organ important?
Can humans survive without the organ? Explain.

In the end, "Doctors in Training" will choose to present their findings to their peers using
any form of presentation (PowerPoint, poster board, skit, song, etc.).
Process:
You will go through three stages to achieve your final presentation.

Step #1: Research and Planning

After being placed in groups, each group will discuss and decide on which organ to
research. You will then access the "Resources" tab, and you will find different links to
access regarding information about each organ. As you are researching, you will
complete the handout to help organize your thoughts, ideas, and information about
your chosen organ. At the end of the exploration, you will turn this handout in for a
grade. You will have two days to complete research and planning with your group
members.

You may now click on the "Resources" tab and begin researching using the given
articles.

Step #2: Project Collaboration

After completing the research and basic planning, you will begin creating your
presentation. You will gather with your team to discuss the information and decide how
you would like it to be placed on the project/presentation to your peers. You will be
given two days to complete your presentation. If you need additional time, you can
work on it during activity/recess, or if you need additional resources, discuss all your
needs with the teacher.

Step #3: Presentation

After you have completed the research and created the presentation, you will now
presentation your chosen organ to your peers to further educate them on the human
body. Make sure you and your group members are fully prepared on what to say, have
designated a speaking part to each member, and have practiced using your
presentation! I am excited to see what you create and present!
