I. INTRODUCTION
a.COARSE OBJECTIVES & LEARNING OUTCOMES
COARSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Learn the importance of research in architecture
2. Select and research on an architectural problem of their own
preference
3. Discover new aspects of architectural planning, technology and
research
4. Solve complex problems based on their own selected research
focus.
5. Defend their architectural thesis proposal.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Application of the methods and processes of research
2. Application of all collected information.
3. Application of creative skills.
4. Develop skills in Problem solving of complex problems
5. Spatial Translation
6. Form Concept Translation
7. Functional Concept translation
8. Economic Concept Translation
9. Successfully defend their ideas.

b. DEFINITION OF TERMS
1. Abstract- is a brief summary of a research/thesis and is often
used to help the reader quickly ascertain the paper's
purpose
2. Bubble diagram
-A tool that architects and designers use for representing
programs visually is a bubble diagram. A bubble diagram
represents spaces with simple circles or squares that are
sized relative to one another. Lines can connect the spaces
to represent corridors or hallways, and the shapes can be
grouped together quickly in multiple arrangements to see
which layouts achieve the needs and goals of the client

- used to represent different kinds of spaces in a plan,

varying in shape to represent features of greater or lesser
importance and size. The bubble diagram can create a
rough sense of flow which is used to develop a more refined
plan.
3. Conceptual sheet- is usually the page that consists design
concepts, processes and graphic presentations on how you
plan on solving the design problem in front of you. It's the

6
underlying logic, thinking, and reasoning for how you'll
design the structure.
4. Proprietor- a person or corporation who has the legal right or
exclusive title to something. (owner)
5. Site justification- is a site selection process. It is a comparative
analysis for choosing or acquiring site for a specific project.
6. Space justification- is a table of computation that shows and
establishes the minimum required area for a certain
space/room.
7. Space matrix- is a list of required spaces in a building that
shows the adjacency or proximity requirements of the
spaces.
