Course Details

(a) Course Objectives:

1 To familiarize students with the fundamentals of analog and digital communication

systems.

2 To familiarize students with various amplitude, frequency and phase modulation &
demodulation of analog signals

3 To develop the students’ ability to determine the effects of receiver frequency and
phase errors in synchronous demodulation systems

4 To give a brief idea on information theory, encoding and few channel coding
schemes.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

1) Understand the role of signal analysis and stochastic process in communication

system.

2) Apply concept and techniques from fourier analysis to communication systems

3) Analyze and design basic analog communication Systems and develop the ability to

compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of communication Systems

4) Evaluate the effect of noise on communication systems.

5) Understand the concept and properties of entropy, mutual information.

6) Apply the channel coding theorem on noiseless and noisy channel.
