Dear sir or madam,

I am writing to express my interest in the doctoral program at (UNI).

Ever since my bachelor studies I developed a keen interest in programming microcontrollers.

The topic of my Bachelor’s thesis was “Title”. During my master’s studies in National Research
University “MPEI” I worked on the topic “Title”. I gained a vast experience in programming
digital signal processors (DSP). Then I continued my studies at (UNI), where I worked on the
topic “Title”. I gained more experience in programming DSP, simulation in Matlab/Simulink as
well as some knowledge in programming FPGA’s. I successfully defended my thesis and was
awarded “Master of Science” at (UNI). After returning back to Russia, I continued my master’s
studies and successfully defended my second master’s thesis at (UNI) and started a doctoral
program at the same university. After successfully finishing the first term I made a decision to
gain more real-world experience and work tightly with the industry. I started my career at
(Company), where I worked as a Senior Scientist until nowadays. My work required all the skills I
gained during the studies, including programming microcontrollers, DSP, knowledge of electrical
motors, mechanics, industrial engineering, etc. I also had a chance to cooperate with other big
companies like “Names”. During the studies I published 10 scientific papers, both in Russian and
international sources.

During my career, I have noticed that there are very few professionals in Russia having a good
knowledge in FPGA programming, so I decided that I need to take my knowledge and skills of
programming to the next level and gain experience in FPGA programming. Several months ago I
was contacted by my colleagues at (UNI), where I was offered to enroll to the doctoral program
at (UNI) and work on the topic of developing tools for communication between FPGAs and
simulation software on PC, like Matlab/Simulink. This topic is state of the art in modern
electrical and industrial engineering. I was also offered a stipendium.

After the doctoral studies at (UNI) I plan to return to Russia and continue my career as a
microcontroller/DSP/FPGA software developer. This niche is almost empty in Russia, but has a
great potential. The knowledge and experience I would gain at TU-Ilmenau would be a great
help in my career and would open me new horizons.

I hope that my application will have a positive outcome.

Best regards,
