Dear parents and carers,
This letter is designed to let you know about the topics for this term and to inform you about homework
and PE.
This term our learning is revolving around the theme of ‘ Explorers and Discovers ’.
The challenge question for the school is:
How can we engage others in
learning about our local area and
beyond?
Year 1 are working towards creating a code-breaking trail
somewhere along Deptford High Street, to be published and sold
as part of a whole school ‘Explorers Code-Breaking Trail’. We will be working with Greenwich Food Bank
on this project and profits from our sales will benefit the charity. If you have f ood donations, please
give to your child’s teacher.
If there is any way that y ou can help us with this, either via fundraising, contacts you have or other ideas
please get in touch!
▪ As Scientists we will continue to learn about the weather and seasonal change in the UK.
▪ As Geographers we will investigate the places around us and make comparisons between local
and wider areas, focusing on the four countries of the UK and its surrounding seas.
▪ As Artists we will create pictures and sculptures inspired by our learning about the local area.
▪ As Users of technology we will create an illustrated, audio e-book linked to a QR code in the
‘Explorers Code-Breaking Trail’.
Homework
Google Classroom codes Victory 3 dd8pb Nelson: 9
v452y
As a Google School, we set our homework through Google Classroom. Each child has a login
name and password provided by their teacher. Later this term we will hold a launch meeting
parents that will explain how children can access and hand in their homework from a device
at home. Until then, please continue to read with your children as much as possible.
Each Friday the children will receive Spelling and Maths homework which will need to be handed in by
the following Tuesday.
Reading- Please ensure your child is reading at home as often as possible. Please write a comment in
their yellow reading record book to let us know how your child is getting on with reading at home. It is
really important that your child brings their book bag and reading record book to school every day.
Spellings- Spellings will be given by your child Read Write Inc teacher, linked to their phonic knowledge.
Maths - M aths will consist of a game or activity that will support your child in their maths lessons during
the following week.
Homework folders - we are providing your child with a plastic folder to store reading books and
homework.
New book donation . I f your child loses their reading book, we are asking for £2 towards replacing the
book. This is paid through Parent Pay under ‘ New book donation’. We welcome any other donations you
would like to give towards books for the school under the same payment name .
Timetables
Here is a basic timetable of things that happen each week. P lease note- some afternoon lessons are
subject to change.
Nelson Class
Victory Class
It is important that your child brings their PE kit on the correct day and that they are wearing suitable
clothing and footwear for the activities they will be doing. Both classes have PE every Friday. For PE
children need a plain white T-shirt, black or grey shorts and trainers. In the winter months they may also
need plain a black or grey tracksuit. If you wish for your child to be excused from P.E, your child must
have a note for Mr Waller.
