(Bonded Beams and Shells)

Introduction to ANSYS AUTODYN

1 © 2011 ANSYS, Inc. March 9, 2012
Quick Instructions

• In AUTODYN, set up the problem
shown in the figures.
• Get material data for AL5083H116
and Steel 4340 (with no failure
model ) from the material library.
• Save data every 100 cycles
• Refresh plot every 100 cycles
• Run the problem for 2000 cycles
• Look at Part history plots to examine
the status of the beam / shell
assembly.

Aluminum Plates (shells)
# elements in J/K direction = 40
YMIN = ZMIN = 0.0
YMAX = ZMAX = 4000.0
X = 0.0 (lower plate)
X = 1000.0 (upper plate)
Thickness = 10.0

Lower plate has x-velocity = 0.0

applied to all nodes as a
boundary condition.

Upper plate has x-velocity = -40.0

Units : mm,mg,ms applied as an initial condition to
nodes J = 11 to 31, K = 11 to 31.
