Pairing hops with valerian may help treat insomnia, according to a 2010 research review
published in Australian Family Physician. The review included 16 previously published studies, 12 of
which found that the use of valerian on its own or in combination with hops helped improve sleep
quality and lessened the amount of time it takes to fall asleep. Used as a bittering agent in beer, hops
are thought to deliver sedative effects.

Chamomile is a fragrant herb known for its apple-like taste and scent. In fact, this relative of the
daisy gets its name from the Greek word kamai, meaning melon or ground apple. For thousands of
years, people all over the world have been brewing chamomile into teas to aid digestion and calm
jangled nerves. Gentle enough for both pregnancy nausea and infant colic, chamomile tea is a wonderful
way to soothe. A new to me idea is to use German chamomile tea, double strength, as a preventative to
damping off in seedtrays. The gardening guide, shared this great tip. I will be using it from now on.

Rosemary may seem like an interesting herb to include in a sleep pillow, but it actually is a
lovely addition. Unlike the previous herbs, instead of relaxing, rosemary actually helps you have vivid
dreams. For many of us, we deal use our sleep time to cope with our daily lives. For those of us who
believe in this idea, dreaming can be the way to work out issues and help us feel balanced during the
day. Include rosemary in small amounts to see if it has this clarifying effect on your dreams.
Rosemary, ( Rosemarinus officinalis ), is a delicious and beautiful herb. You can find many
varieties to fit your need: upright and trailing. Use them interchangeably and even grow multiple
varieties as each is distinctly different looking. I use trailing varieties for my herb standards . I braid three
stems and use those as the main stem. It gives a more decorative look to my finished standard.
The ancients were well acquainted with the shrub, which had a reputation for strengthening the
memory. On this account it became the emblem of fidelity for lovers. It holds a special position among
herbs from the symbolism attached to it. Not only was it used at weddings, but also at funerals, for
decking churches and banqueting halls at festivals, as incense in religious ceremonies. In early times,
Rosemary was freely cultivated in kitchen gardens and came to represent the dominant influence of the
house mistress. 'Where Rosemary flourished, the woman ruled.' In place of more costly incense, the
ancients used Rosemary in their religious ceremonies. An old French name for it was Incensier.
