CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter gives an outline of research methods to be used to conduct the

study. The researchers will explain how the necessary data and information will be

collected, presented and analyzed to address the research objectives. This study will

involve the research design, data collection, location of the water source, Design

Standard of Water Supply System, and statistical treatment.

Research Design

The research method that will be used by the researchers in this study is the

Descriptive research. Descriptive research, also known as statistical research, it

describes data and characteristics about the population or phenomenon being studied.

The researchers will use descriptive research design that relies much on the

secondary data which helps in developing the case basing on facts, sustained by

statistics and descriptive interpretations from archival materials and data.

With this research method, the researchers will determine the current condition of

the water supply system of Sitio Taganilao, Barangay Tamisan and its impact to the

daily lives of the residents, through direct observation, topographic survey and by the

use of existing records of Barangay Tamisan.

Data Collection

The researchers will communicate to any agencies by sending letters of

permission addressing each office's head, allowing the researchers to conduct a

feasibility study and gather necessary data for the completion of the study. The data

and information needed in this study will be gathered from Barangay Hall of Tamisan,

City Planning and Development Office and other government and non-government

agencies.

The necessary data needed for this study will include demography, health,

natural features, and the water supply services of the Sitio Taganilao, Barangay

Tamisan that will be obtained from Barangay Office. The researchers will be able to

locate the possible source of water which will be assisted by the information that will be

gathered from the City Planning and Development Office. This source involves the

groundwater availability that will support Sitio Taganilao Barangay Tamisan.

The researchers will conduct water sampling from any suitable location of

the source of the water supply system for Sitio Taganilao Barangay Tamisan.

Location of Water Source

The researchers will able to locate a potential source of water supply for Sitio

Taganilao, Barangay Tamisan based on the following criteria from the Design Manual

for Rural Water Supply Volume I. Researchers will only consider three out the five

criteria, and this are the following;

• Adequacy and reliability

• Quality

• Cost

To meet the standard set by the National Structural Code of the Philippines,

Water Code of the Philippines and also the Sanitation Code of The Philippines, the

basis of the researchers for designing a water supply system will be The Design Manual

for Rural Water supply that collaboratively published by the institutions, agencies and

individuals of the water sectors.
