What is Phenomenology?
Phenomenology is a type of qualitative research which focuses on
life experiences. This study deals with real life scenario and explains
why certain events and phenomenon happen in our society. There are
different life experiences which tackle authentic life events.

One of the life experiences that can be illustrated is our

relationship with our family. By showing the reality between the
members of the family, one can explain the importance of the basic
unit if the society. Additionally, being familiar with the concepts of
connection within a family will introduce us the value of love.

Another life experience that can be painted in phenomenology is

people’s behavior. Humans behave in different ways. We are labeled as
good, bad, arrogant, humble, greedy, naughty, generous, etc.
Depending on our actions. Thus, it is interesting to know why people
have different personalities.

Moreover, the culture of one’s place is also included in our daily life
experiences: the food we eat, our religion, ways of fashion, language,
beliefs, and philosophies are just parts of a basic culture. Hence, this is
a large scope of phenomenon of our life. It encompasses almost all
aspects of one’s life.

Therefore, investigating through phenomenology is a tedious but

exciting task. We will discover the realities and the principles behind
them. We would answer our curious questions about life in general.
Because of this, we will discover and explain more why certain events
and situations happen in our life helping us to change for better.

Variables in this Diary

Independent Variable Dependent Variable

Beliefs and People’s

Philosophies Fashion
in Life Style

People’s beliefs generally affect their behavior. In the diagram, it is

shown that beliefs and philosophies of man can affect their fashion
style. Fashion style is the way of wearing clothes and accessories.
Hence, one’s perspectives about life can directly affect his way of using
clothes and accessories. For example, a muslim woman may tend to
wear long clothes that cover her body compared to non-muslim woman
because of non-belief to this tradition.

Diary Questions

In the course of writing a diary, the researcher is curious to answer the

following questions:

1. Why do people differ on their fashion style? What are the major reasons
why people have varied tastes on what to wear and what not to wear?
2. Is there any relationship between one’s clothings and his general
principles in life?
3. If given a chance, would people with specific fashion style change their
mode of clothings?
4. Is age an important factor in choosing clothes and accessories?
5. How satisfy are those people who follow their mode of dressing?
6. Can we judge people on how they wear clothes?
7. What would be the effect if you force someone to change his/her fashion
style?
8. Is fashion style really a part of people’s culture? Why? Why not?

Moral Lessons/Things I Learned in My Diary

After writing and observing for 35 days, I have learned the following:

1. We cannot judge people based on their fashion style.

2. We should not discriminate people just because of their clothing style.
3. People’s fashion style is really a part of one’s culture; whether group or
individual.
4. Our belief and philosophy differ from each other. None is better or worse
than the other.
5. Respect and open mindedness is very important to have a balanced
opinion about fashion style
