INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

We as a whole live on this excellent water planet which we have

erroneously called Earth, about 71 percent of its surface.
Water—important for life, economic comfort, and ecological integrity.
Household choirs cannot be done without water. Whatever we eat in our
daily lives comprise water. Every living organism needs water for survival.
Apart from this, water is needed in industrial units, production units, and
agricultural sector. Water is needed by microbes, animals, plants and
everyone. Next to air (oxygen), water is the most crucial element to human
life. The human body needs water in order to live. Water is essential to the
functioning of every single cell and organ system in the human body. Water
makes up larger than 2/3 of the weight of the human body; the brain is 75%
water, blood is 83% water, bones are 22% water, muscles are 75% water,
and the lungs are 90% water. Comfortable living and good health as well
cannot be possible without clean and toxin free water.
Humans in history have been putting away and appropriating water
for quite a long time. Previously, during the civilization of mankind, river water
was connected for drinking water purposes. At the point when individuals for
all time remained in one place for a significant lot of time, this was generally
almost a waterway or lake. At the point when there were no streams or lakes
in a region, individuals utilized groundwater for drinking water purposes. This
was pumped up through wells. At the point when the human populace began
developing broadly, the water supply was not any more adequate.
The Romans were the best engineers of water circulation organizes
ever. They utilized waterway, spring or groundwater for provisioning. The
Romans fabricated dams in streams, making lakes shape. The lake water
was circulated air through and then provided. Mountain water was the most
prominent kind of water, in view of its quality.
Statement of the Problem

Nowadays, the access to potable water supply; its availability, quality

and governance is one of mankind’s major global challenges. Thousands of
people currently lack a safe water supply and this population becoming
larger. Hence, the need and demand of water is also increasing.
In this issue, the local government of barangay Salawagan in the
municipality of Quezon has arousing concerns regarding this manner.
Accordingly, this is due to increasing population, the ground water from the
spring may face issues related to environmental degradation, contamination
from waste, and threat from the climate change.
The adequate use of resources on how to manage the problem by
assessing the water supply may support to address the issues and search
for solutions for a better and sustainable water system. A positive procedure
is required.

Significance of the Study

The water system of barangay Salawagan, Quezon, Bukidnon is the

core of this study. Assessment of the current situation of the barangay’s
water supply system and sources will help disseminate information in which
organization and progress be created.
The result of this study could be very beneficial for the community. If
this can be achieved successfully, from a conservative perspective, it will
bring long lasting benefits to the people and nature.
Objectives of the Study

The study research initially intents to evaluate the domestic water

supply system in barangay Salawagan, Quezon, Bukidnon. Particularly, this
study searches to:

I. Determine the location and sources of barangay

domestic water supply;
II. Determine the water level of service of the barangay;
III. Inspect the existing hydraulic structures;
IV. Determine the complications encountered on
barangays water system; and
V. Generate a recommendation policy.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study is limited only in assessing the domestic water supply

system of barangay Salawagan, Quezon, Bukidnon and determining its
sources. Examination, testing and water treatment in the laboratory are
exempted in this study.
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Globally, over one billion people – including men, women and children
– live in scarcity. Their poverty is complicated, such as lack of knowledge,
health facilities and hospitals; and they are vulnerable to external hazards,
like droughts and economic crises. Additionally, they don’t have enough
sources of clean water. Most of these people live in developing countries like
South Africa (Moriarty, Butterworth & van Koppen, 2004: 243; Elimeleck,
2006:3-8; UNISEF/WHO, 2004: 36; United Nations Development
Programme, 2006:1).
For numerous unfortunate households, only a thin line separates the
spaces used for cooking and eating, bathing, and as toilets and garbage
disposals. Unsafe, dirty water kills more people than wars each year.
MANILA, Philippines – Half of Filipino households, as of 2011, did not try to
make their drinking water safe, according to the latest National Nutrition
Survey (NNS). Not everyone has entree to proper sanitation and hygiene.
This can impact on individual health, and in the long-run, the country’s overall
efficiency. A child dies around the world in every 21 seconds from water-
related illnesses, international non-profit organization (UNICEF/WHO,
2006:41). This is generally due to water contaminated by fecal matter –
because many families still have toilets deficiency. Provided that better water
systems can help “improve socio-economic, health and nutrition status of
houses,” the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) advised.
The purpose of this literature review is to find the weaknesses and to
seek resolutions to address the concerns faced by the barangay in securing
accessible clean water for the local residents. A review of the international
and local literature is presented in this paper. Furthermore, the methods and
solutions presented in the literature are discussed. References based on the
study of the literature will be presented, with the aim of assessing the
domestic water supply of barangay Salawagan, Quezon, Bukidnon
Municipality to address the challenge of providing access to clean water for
all the people in this district.
