South Korea- Development Goals

Goal 4. Reduce child mortality

total: 3 deaths/1,000 live births

male: 3.2 deaths/1,000 live births
female: 2.8 deaths/1,000 live births (2017 est.)

E - Estimated. The figure is estimated by the international agency, when corresponding country data on a
specific year or set of years are not available, or when multiple sources exist, or there are issues of data
quality. Estimates are based on national data, such as surveys or administrative records, or other sources
but on the same variable being estimated.

Goal 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

Tuberculosis (TB) in Korea remains a serious health problem with an estimated 77 per 100,000 incidence
rate for 2016. This makes Korea as the only OECD country with high incidence of TB. The government
has increased budgets and strengthened patient management policies since 2011. The management of
latent tuberculosis was added to the response with strengthened and extensive contact investigations in
the five-year tuberculosis control plan (2013–2017) and implementation was established in 2013. Due to
these efforts Korea has achieved an average 5.2% reduction annually in tuberculosis incidence rate
between 2011 and 2016
.
Target 8. Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases

Goal 7. Ensure environmental sustainability

Proportion of the population using improved drinking water sources, total - Korea, Republic of

Target 10. Halve by 2015 the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water
