Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Time of Math Kahoot!

Content Area: Mathematics
Grade Level(s): 6th grade
Content Standard Addressed: MGSE6.NS.3 Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals
using the standard algorithm for each operation.

Technology Standard Addressed: ISTE standard: 1. Empowered Learner Students leverage technology to take
an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating competency in their learning goals, informed by the
learning sciences. Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to
demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable): Kahoot.com

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☒ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☒ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☐ Teacher-Paced ☒ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: Students will be engaged because of the excitement of the game part of the Kahoot program.
Students will be focused on working through the problems to get the points and possibly win the game for
getting answers right.
Representation: The representation of the mathematical operations will be presented in away that students
are custom to seeing in class.
Action and Expression: The many devices that students can response through can be adjusted to how the
student wants to respond. For an example if a student needs bigger text they can respond on the computer
instead of a phone.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity. The purpose of the Kahoot, is to gather information on how well the students in that class
understand how to perform operations with multiple digit decimals. Prior to play the Kahoot game, I have
lessons on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals with multiple digit after the decimal point.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:
During the Kahoot, students will be using paper, pencil and electronic device that can pull in a URL and the
device has internet access. The students will use the paper and pencil to work out the problems if they so
need to. The teacher will walk around and monitor that students are doing this individually. Each question has
the time limit of 90 second but the program will move onto the next question when it has response from all
players. It is more on the students-pace that will determine the time to complete.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☐ Yes ☐ No
☒ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? I have pre-selected correct answers because the program of Kahoot has you select the
correct answer. I also want students to see the correct answer and possibly see why they got that answer
right or wrong.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After the activity, the teacher will project the questions and select one student to answer one of the
questions then keep selecting one student to answer till all the questions are answered.
How will the data be used? The data that would be collected would be used to determine if students are
ready to move onto the summative assessment. If students are still struggling, then the teacher will know to
reteach some things.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. For this activity, the personal learning goal for me, is to
use this technology for an engaging formal formative assessment. The results and data that will be collected
will help inform me as a teacher were students need more assistance on before giving them a summative
assessment.

Reflective Practice: I feel that this lesson activity will provide the teacher will much needed understanding
and checking where students are in the learning of operations with multi-digit decimals.
