RANGKUMAN (SUMMARY)

The goal of sustainable development the year 2030 could be achieved through
synergy with various elements of society that is driven by the younger generation
as leading the future. Mastery of science and technology is currently a key
importance in facing future challenges. Various challenges that arise among other
things related to the improvement of quality of life, equitable development, and
ability to development human resources.

The world is facing a time of transition to the fourth industrial revolution. It is

characterized by its affiliated to the physical world, digital, and biological. The
fourth industrial revolution will create a new job with better quality and in need of
a better qualification. For that, science education as part of education plays an
important role in preparing students with the science literacy that is capable of
creative thinking, logical, and initiative in observing and responding to issues in the
community caused by the impact of the development of science and technology.

The application of science very much found in product technology. Some of the
results showed that the learning of science and technology and architecture greatly
increases the potential ability of science literacy of students. STEM education is
currently an alternative learning science can build a generation that is able to face
the challenges of the 21st century. STEM education refers to the concept of
integrating design technology with science and math concepts in learning. The
concept of integrated education in the STEM is applying the learning of science-
based problem-solving that puts scientific investigations and the application of
mathematics in the context of designing the technology as a form of problem
solving associated with the state of the real world.

The purpose of a scientific paper is the provide understanding of the STEM in the
process of learning science activities. The implementation of an integrated learning
STEM is expected to create cohesive learning systems and active learning to
enchance the knowledge and skills of students. The center of the learning activity
in a variety of STEM is enaging students in defining and formulating an authentic
solutions to problems in the real world.

STEM is integrated learning between four disciplines of science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics in the interdisciplinary and applied approach based
on the real world context. This means an approach through the STEM, students are
not simply memorizing concept, but rather to how to understand and grasp the
concept of science and to do in everyday life.

The STEM approach is divided into silo approaches, embedded approaches, and
integrated approaches. The silo approach to STEM education refers to isolated
instruction, where each STEM subject is taught separately or individually. The
approach embedded in STEM, technology and engineering education content is
emphasized (as taught in the silo approach), embedded approaches emphasize
maintaining the integrity of subject matter, not focusing on interdisciplinary
subjects. However, the embedded approach is different from the concept of the silo
approach in promoting learning through various contexts.

The vision of an integrated STEM education approach aims to remove the dividing
wall between each STEM field in the silo approach and embeded approach, and to
teach students as one subject. Ideally, interdisciplinary integration allows students
to gain mastery of the competencies needed to complete tasks. Interdisciplinary
integration can begin with real-world problems. Combining cross-curricular content
with critical thinking, problem solving skills, and knowledge to reach conclusions.

Education in the fourth industrial era needs to be seen as the development of 21st
century competence, which consists of three major components, namely the
components of thinking, acting, and living in the world. The application of science
learning using the STEM approach is one example of an effort to answer the
challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The application of science learning
using the STEM approach is one example of an effort to answer the challenges of
the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Learning based on the STEM approach is applied
to support the concept of Education 4.0 by providing a different experience. The
output generated from the process of implementing these learning activities is
expected to be able to produce competent, superior and competitive young
generation.
