media to promote more positive images of sports and physical fitness.
Four General Kinds of Position Paper
1. Expositive writing
- tries to answer questions of the form “What did A say or think about P?” “What did A
mean in the following passage?”
-It involves arguing for or against a certain interpretation of that philosopher’s ideas by
showing that this interpretation is more or less consistent with other writings by the same
philosopher, entails consequences which the philosopher would or would not be willing to
accept, etc.
2. Comparative writing
-takes up questions like “How are positions X and Y similar, and how to do they differ?”
“What is the relationship between the arguments for X and Y?” And “How do philosophers A
and B compare with respect to their thinking on P?”
- Usually require you to summarize or setting out the arguments and positions your own
words. -It will also require you to defend your claims of commonality and difference.
3. Evaluative writing
-considers such questions as “Is position P plausible?” “Is P more or less plausible than Q?”
“Is the argument for P strong?” “Is the argument for P stronger or weaker than the argument for
Q?”
-If a position seems to contradict what we know, or if we can find a case which seems to
contradict the position, that’s a mark against the position. If an argument assumes things we have
reason to doubt, or which can’t be believed without accepting the conclusion, or if those ideas
don’t seem to support the conclusion the argument wants to us draw, that’s a mark against the
argument.
4. Constructive writing
- considers such questions as “What should we think about P?” or “What’s the truth about
P?”
- usually involves an analysis and evaluation of particularly relevant and influential work in
order to elucidate or advance our own position, carefully supporting our position with argument,
and responding to actual or potential objections.
ENGLISH HUMANITIES
My hometown
I come from a small town called Pudtol particularly in brgy. Mataguisi. It has very
peaceful green surroundings. My hometown has a few population and the people are very
friendly. Furthermore, my hometown is a lowland town as a result; there are crops of different
kinds. In addition, there are many farmers around so you can ask some of their harvest crops for
free wherein people living here are not just kind but also a generous one.
There are reasons why do I love living in my hometown. First, my family is here.
Although I heard some says, “I hate it here,” or “I’m never coming back”. But for me I’ll always
love my hometown for so many reasons. Second, coming home means getting to see my
hometown friends. Even though my hometown does have a limited amount of activities, my
friends and I always seem to find something to do just like playing basketball to relax and as part
of our exercise. Third, my hometown made me who I am. It makes me open my eyes to what is
really the best for me. The experiences that I've gone through in my hometown have laid out the
foundation for who I have become. I am me today because of my hometown and I learned a lot
because of my hometown. Third, the diversity here is amazing. Being home has made me
appreciate just how much I love the diversity my hometown has to offer just like the languages
spoken here and the people you can mingle all the time. Lastly, this is where I grew up. I have
great moments here.
So, as a student I must suggest that we should love our own hometown and be proud
about it. We must learn to the fullest, study harder in order to help our hometown to become
better in the future. We must bring change, a change that can be benefited the citizen of your
hometown.
HUMANITIES
My Future Dream
People around the world have different dreams to become. Some want to be rich; others
wish to become leaders of their country to gain honor and respect. Due to social trends, youth of
today chose to become an actor and actresses. Some desire to be great educators, doctors,
scientists and so on. I am a human being. I too have my own ambition.
When I was a child, I dream to have a superpower just like those heroes in some movies.
As the time goes by, I realize that I really wanted to become a policeman who will serve the
country and its people. Although, people says that I am a spoiled brat, an easy going student and
immature but I am also a human being that has feelings and I too have ambition. Now and then,
crimes and wrongdoings of people are everywhere. It really breaks my heart seeing those people
who suffer abuse from those who have power. I really wanted to help people who are in need.
Therefore, I want to become a policeman in order to keep peace and order, to protect the people,
to prevent crime and keep the country safe.
Why do I want to become a policeman? I have reasons why do I choose this path. First, I
like to follow my brothers’ path that is very loyal in their chosen fields. Second, I don’t like
seeing people who are being abuse and those who are not given proper justice. Third, I want to
clean the image of the police officer because not all of them are corrupt and abusive of power.
Fourth, I want to encourage that police officer must not be bought by money, that they should
solve cases by heart. Lastly, I want to fight the country and its citizen.
