1. Purpose of position
The ITS Engineering Team delivers:
Integrated end-to-end ITS solutions Development - including ITS Architecture, technical standards, design development
and maintenance planning
Whole of Life Services - establish ITS project engineering & SME capability to support project development, planning,
design, procurement, testing/commissioning and O&M
Asset Life Cycle (ALC) Management – support and manage all ALC Models with input on ITS major upgrade,
replacement planning and budget forecasting data
Governance - Cross business team governing ITS investment ensuring consolidated of demand, consistent standards
and delivery, effective prioritisation and cross asset risk management
Stakeholder Management - manage strategic relationship of all ITS vendors, Road Authorities and technology consultants
Business Development - strategic solution development and support Transurban Asset development, acquisition and
integration activities
Reporting to the ITS Engineering Manager, the ITS Engineer is responsible for providing engineering services to
support the delivery and ongoing through life support of ITS in with opportunities in other regions of Australia and

environment including the asset Traffic Operation Centres (TOC).
2. Key accountabilities

Asset ITS Systems Support the through life support of Asset ITS systems:
Assigned tasks are completed on time and to the satisfaction of the
customer / supervisor / manager
The quality of deliverables is satisfactory and meets or exceeds the
expectations of the customer / supervisor / manager
Project Delivery SME Support the delivery of ITS projects involving the deployment of safety and
mission critical systems in road tunnel, bridge and open road environments.

4. Position complexities
As the business develops, the position will continue to evolve and the incumbent will be expected to adopt a flexible
approach to work requirements and to undertake new or alternative duties as required. This may include new
technology usage, new work procedures and customer service delivery systems. Changes will involve the employee
and will be supported with training.

The incumbent is expected to develop expertise in Electronic Tolling, Traffic Management systems and Industrial Control
Systems (ICS) , including tunnel safety systems and with time become a Subject Matter Expert in these systems.
Rapid advances in technology and the work environment will require a consistent motivated approach in order to maintain
and assist with change. Further the incumbent will assist in delivering business solutions in line with the Company’s
business plan to deliver revenue growth, cost reduction and improved service delivery.
The role also covers the support and monitoring of 24 x 7 operational systems, and correction of any faults. Any system
downtime can potentially have a direct impact on the safe and efficient operation of the Asset directly impacting daily
revenue, motorists on Sydney’s road corridor and the reputation of Transurban as a reliable tollway operator. The position
also requires strict confidentiality to be maintained at all times in regards the setup of these systems.
The role will involve interaction with internal customers, suppliers, clients, advisers and other stakeholders relating to the
Transurban Group Business.
Although the incumbent will be supervised directly, he or she will be required to work independently in identifying
resources, researching and making informed recommendations impacting the operational aspects of Transurban ITS
Infrastructure. As such, a high degree of independence and initiative is required, along with the ability to analyse and
make recommendations succinctly and efficiently.
