Research Context

English subject is the subject that very important for student. To know Commented [m1]: How important?

English, the student should understand about how to use the word and

sentence in English. It is can help the student to improve their knowledge

about English. Actually, learn English is not too difficult. But, there are some

students think that English is very difficult because lack of the knowledge.

The important thing to learn a language, especially English the student should

know and memorize every vocabulary in their daily activity or in their

environment. Without memorizing the vocabulary the student cannot learn

English well, because to understand the text or conversation the student must

know the meaning both of them. If they do not want to memorize or try to

study about vocabulary, they cannot improve their English.

There are some strategies to memorizing vocabulary. In this case, the

student should learn the word first. There are some theories which are

explained about word, as like in morphology. It is related with language file’s

book that explains morphology is the study of the building blocks of meaning

in language. How do languages build words and indicate grammatical

relationship between words1. While, a simple definition comes from Francis,

he states that morphology is the study of word structure2. Through this

morphology the students can know some categories how to make or create a

new word. Morphology is a science that learn about morpheme. Morpheme is

the language substance whic have a meaning . it is involve the result of

 process that is called derivational and inflectional. In this case the student

also know how to group the word based on the word class. From this, the

student’s vocabulary will be rich.

In the morphology there is a specific way to know the word which is

called the hierarchical structure of word that use tree diagram. That is process

to grouping the word based on word class, how to sequence the word can

change the meaning or not. It is related with Stefanie statement, Tree

diagram itself is branching structures in which each constituent forms

“branch”3. To analyzed the word the students can use tree diagram

The researcher interesting to conduct a study research the 4th semester

TBI student at stain pamekasan because researcher found the student

difficulties to memorize the vocabularies. It can be the students lazy to

memorize the vocabularies or the students difficult to memorize something.

In another side morphology subject can help the student skill to improve their

vocabularies. The student can use tree diagram to memorize the vocabularies

while they study about word in morphology. In morphology, explain how to

sequence the word in other classes and how they change the meaning. When

the student learn it Automatically the student will memorize every word

which is analyzed by themselves.

The researcher want to know what do the students memorize

vocabularies. Learn morpheme is the strategy that is more effective when the

student learn about word and memorize it, such as using tree diagram.

Especially for 4th semester TBI students in STAIN Pamekasan, this theory is

very useful because beside they learn about the material, they can memorize

the vocabularies automatically when they analyzed some words, cause there

are words that have a branch and it may change the word class and meaning.

So, the students must often to analyzed the word , from this way they can get

2 advantages with doing one activity, as like more understand about

morphology subject and enrich their vocabularies. There fore the researcher
