B. Brief profile of the company:

Central Azucarera de Tarlac (CAT) is one of the leading integrated sugar mills in the

country with a refinery, distillery, and carbon dioxide plant in Tarlac City. It was

incorporated on January 19, 1927 wherein the sugar cane milled is sourced within the

Tarlac district and nearby towns of Pampanga.

C. Nature of the Company: Manufacturing Company

D. Observation:

Due to the clining day of company we’re not able to enter inside the

production area, therefore these are the only I observed; During the orientation

they discuss to us the processes, the programs, the materials where it came from,

the product they produce and they also produce electrical power.

E. Reflections on a specific concept and theory:

The processing of production of the sugar, they washed it with water, and

shredded and crushed it. Cleaning and filtering the sugar cane juice will subject into

a boiler until it reach the desired consistency and it pass trough more process until

it reach to the suagr product.

B. Brief profile of the company:

The SANITARY LANDFILL (SLF) in Sub Zone D, Clark Special Economic Zone, Sitio

Kalangitan, is build based on international accepted standards, which exceed the

standards as stipulated in RA 9003 substantially.

C. Nature of the Company: Solid waste management facility

D. Observation:

During the orientation the president of the company discuss the history of the

facility and design how it was built. The company is following and using the correct

technique in order for the lichen not to enter the water table unless untreated.

E. Reflections on a specific concept and theory:

The process of solid waste management is used by separating different solid

waste material from household waste to hospital solid waste as well

implemented.
A. Company Name: Mak ban Geothermal Power Plant

B. Brief profile of the company:

Makban Geothermal Power Plant is located on the border between Laguna and

Batangas provinces. It is the fourth biggest geothermal power facility in the world,

with an output capacity of 458 MW. Owned by a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power, the

complex consists of six power plants. The geothermal site covers an area of 700

hectar and has been in operation since 1979.

D. Observation:

The plant is named Makban because of it is located between mountains

Makiling and Banahaw. In our way to the said power plant, I have observed that

there were so many pipes all over the places which is said to be carrying water.

They were so strict on the time and schedule. Inside the plant, safety and neatness

are strictly observed. The facilities inside are well maintained and their employees

are capable and well trained.

The pipes carry water for the plant to use for the steam. The geothermal

power plant utilizes heat energy of earth to generate steam where the generated

steam is utilized to rotate the turbine to produce electricity.

B. Brief profile of the company:

Gardenia Bakeries Philippines, Inc. operates as a bread manufacturing

company. It offers various bakery products, including loaves, buns and toasts,

and snack cakes through supermarkets, groceries, convenience, and variety

stores. The company was founded in 1997 and is based in Biñan, Laguna.

C. Nature of the Company: Bread Production Industry

D. Observation:

During the tour inside the facility we can notice that inside the bread making

facility is clean. The company are all automated machine from the start of

processing the bread. The bread are sealed using the G-lock system which indicates

the certain day of production.

E. Reflections on a specific concept and theory:

They always use a high quality product in making bread. In the processing

stage, cut dough are passed through a check weigher so that every loaf weighs the

same. Cut dough that are over or underweight drop from the conveyor belt into a

pan. The dough collected here is put back into the mixer. Every bread test all the

parameters before the distribution.

B. Brief profile of the company:

Kawasaki's origins go back to 1878, when Shozo Kawasaki established Kawasaki

Tsukiji Shipyard in Tokyo. Eighteen years later, in 1896, it was incorporated as

Kawasaki Dockyard Co., Ltd. Kawasaki is a company that designs innovation, create

inventions, they create vehicles for air, railways, power plants, and industrial

equipment.

D. Observation:

During the orientation they discuss that Kawasaki produce other innovation

not just only motocycles and the history as well. From the tour inside the

production, all people wear safety equipment and they are also painted lines in the

floor that arrangement of the machine.

Using the personal protective equipment (ppe) for our safety to avoid injury

and 5s which it’s the steps of workplace organization process.

B. Brief profile of the company:

AC Harris Cable Corporation was incorporated on July 2005 with a group of

dynamic individuals aspiring to provide quality Aluminum, Copper and Steel Wires

& Cables for the quality conscious and service oriented customers, thus the

A. Company Name: Light Rail Transit Authority

B. Brief profile of the company:

The Light Rail Transit Authority is recognized as the premiere rail transit in the

country providing reliable, efficient, dependable, and environmental friendly mass

rail services to all residents of Metro Manila. LRTA is a wholly owned government

corporation created on July 12, 1980 under Executive Order (EO) No. 603, as

amended by EO No. 830 dated September 1982, and EO No. 210 dated July 7, 1987.

The LRTA is primarily responsible for the construction, operation, maintenance and

lease of light rail transit system in the Philippines.

A pioneer of the industry since 1984, LRTA has become the country’s prime

mover in the rail transport sector serving the needs of millions of Filipinos by

exploring avenues where the LRTA system could continuously provide efficient

transport services while promoting economy and efficiency of operations.

D. Observation:

Throughout our tour in the LRT line 2, I observed that they use SCADA as their

control and monitoring system. The train is unmanned and it is driven at the

Operation Control System (OCC). OCC allows monitoring of all rolling stocks all the

time. The stabling yard is evidently well organized and systematic.

E. Reflections on a specific concept and theory:

 The concept of voltage conversion is observed in the LRT. The supply line of the

train uses high AC voltage. The train is powered by a dc voltage thus inside the train

is a rectifier to convert the ac voltage to dc voltage.

2. REFLECTIONS:

As a mechanical Engineering student, the tour plant is good experience, because I

learn lots of things during the tour. The first things I learn is to use always a personal

protective equipment (ppe) all the times inside the work place for the safety to avoid

injury which involves sharp blade, high voltage falling debris, spark from the welding

machine and other occurrences. A mechanical engineer can be assign into general

engineering, field, machine shop, water or electric supply, processing and operation.

We learn from the tour that the mechanical engineer can be a maintenance and repair

for the equipment and machine, designing power for producing an electricity. From the

tour we are able to apply the things we learn in school such as the strength of material

to see if mechanism can hold the load of materials. We also learn how they design

strong bolt and nut that can use primary to hold things or a components together. They

also test every material before they will use in production such as tensile of the wire. A

mechanical Engineer can also a research and development to find new ways to improve

the production processes that is more efficient in the industry.

3. ASSESSMENT:

A. Transportation Service

The transportation in the plant tour is very good we’re always arrive early in

our destination.

B. Hotel accommodation and Services

The hotel service is good, they provide us good a rooms and the staffs were

very helpful.

C. Food

The food is great, we enjoyed the food they serve and had a variety of options

and was flavorful.

D. Tour Guide

The tour guide make a brief overview of the company we visit before travelling

into that place. She also check the student in the bus before leaving. And she

always there guiding us.
