INTRODUCTION

Reading is an activities of understanding meaning from written


and printed form such as newspapers, magazines, modules and any
material that can benefits to any target groups, especially teachers
and students. This complex skill is basically involves an activities
of understanding more on comprehension. It is also play an
important rule of skills that need to be mastered. The example of the
skills is inferences, deducing, evaluating, synthesizing, and making
conclusion or judgment.

Comprehending the passage as a whole is a must. Readers can


possible try to answer the comprehension question on a given
passages. Reading is also requires basic in order to master the
language such as English and it involves as a thinking and
interactive process of gaining information from others. Reading is to
the mind what exercise to the body (Joseph Addison). This bring to
another practice that make human feel the text that been read and
visualize the storyline or the main point and the vocabulary from the
story as a whole.

The writer can create a special feeling to people who read and
enjoy the line just like seeing a movie. I do believe the genre of the
books is basically enable a director of the film imagine the storyline
and change it to a real adapted stories. This is my experiences when
I read a story book and suddenly you can see in the television or a
movie. We do want to see the movies in order to compare to our
understanding from the story books. The above quotation implies
that reading can be associated with our mind.

In this assignment I am going to relate more on the beginning


level reading strategies and to discuss the ways that these strategies
can be incorporated into a reading lesson. The classes of Year 4 in a
primary level 2 have been chosen and consist of high achievers
students. I will try to create and adapt teaching- learning material
from the internet and module itself.

QUESTION 1

The beginning level reading strategies is basically for the young


primary or elementary school children. It is the first formal
introduction for them in order to make use of skills in reading.
Pronunciation of words is important and the vocabulary and the
target language are the main skills related to it.

Teacher must take a consideration on this beginning level of reading


strategies.

In this assignment I need to briefly list out four different ways in


which this strategies can be incorporated and carried out in a
reading lesson for level 2 or year 4 students.

i) Teach reading as part of holistic plans that will include a variety


of skills such as listening, speaking and writing. It is for develop
their confident and make the lesson enjoyable and been
participate by all children in class. Physical activities, games,
songs and competition between them can show the useful of
reading before a teacher move to another different ways of
beginning level reading strategies.

ii) Teacher provide a variety of activities to keep pupils attentive


towards the lesson. The word puzzles can arouse children to
communicate each other maybe in their group and try to present
the answers collaboratively.

iii) Teacher needs to provide an ample opportunity for children in


order to understand the meaning of words in the text or stories
given in the classroom. Examples let them see, sense, hear and
say a word at the same time make them say the words as teacher
write them out on the board.

iv) Provide rewards as forms of motivation and encouragement to
read the given text or stories in good manner, by answering an
orally comprehension questions or the meaning of the vocabulary
underlined.

QUESTION 2

Teacher must choose the suitable material that suit to the need
of the students in the classroom. What I am going to do in this
lesson is basically more on beginning level reading strategies. It is
for a primary level two, year 4 class. From the third question have
mention about the high achiever learner but need to be expose on
this teaching-learning materials. The main focused of my lesson
would be an integration of two reading skills. The two chosen
reading skills must suits to the need of the students in the
classroom.

I need to consider their different ability in this classroom so


that they can coop and enjoy the lesson without doubt and make use
of the text or stories given according to the topics. Students
sometimes try to ask and search the vocabulary or key words that
may help them to focus, furthermore understand the storyline.

I select a reading material generally from the internet and it is


based on language, mode and content. The language used in a piece
of reading material can be views with straight forward and suitable
for the students. The vocabulary, sentence structures and the length
of the texts is according to their proficiency level. It is not to
advanced and not to basic in term of language used for the student.
I want to emphasized here that language level of student is an
important criteria when we selecting a reading materials. It also
affects students reading comprehension ability.

Mode refers to the manner in which the materials are presented
such as descriptive material (e.g. people, places, event, and
process).Profession related such as “Fire bridged” and it is
presented in pictorial with uniform and tools. It is for giving more
explanation on the topic of occupation.

The activity is basically involving all the criteria for selection


of reading materials for this class. I hope that it will be a good
explanation on the lesson plan that I will shows on this assignment.

The lesson Plan is basically involve two skills of reading and the
sub skills are a mixture of skills that suitable for a beginning level
reading strategies. The previous knowledge is pupils knows from
watching television, books and fire demonstration that been showed
in fire drill activities at school compound.

The learning outcomes are listening and repeat phrases with correct
intonation and word stress. Acquire vocabulary is important in order
to get a view of the text and try to understand its as a whole. The
story itself can create awareness and values of caring other people
and to stress more on the profession of Fire Fighter.

I use Group Learning Outcomes for the pupils to helping each other
and exchange their views towards the text. There are six pupils in
five groups. The grammar item that I used in this lesson plan is
Nouns and verb. Pupils need to label the words such as “Terry” is a
noun. Underlined and draw the letter “N”. It is represent the noun.
Teacher ask student to put up their hand and try to say the word with
the grammar items such as nouns or verb.

Lastly is the word puzzles game. Pupils need to search the words
used in the text and there need to complete the task individually in
order to recall their memory about the text. I provide 5 pencils as a
reward for them if they can solve the word puzzles. Teacher will
summarize the lesson by inserting moral values based on the text
and actual experiences based on taking care of other people when
they need a helping hand.
