Dirks, David. “State of Homelessness.” National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2018,

endhomelessness.org/homelessness-in-america/homelessness-statistics/state-of-homelessness-report/.

In this article, Dirks explores the Homelessness by state in America and possible assistance available in society.

It shows the different percents over the years about the variety service programs and housing. The article goes

on about different types of housing such as , emergency shelters, transitional housing, rapid re-housing and

permanent supportive housing. After reviewing the latest American community survey estimates on prior

living situations to those who were homeless. He goes into depth on the poverty thresholds; how there is a

way to define a family by their income and household background, sad if you ask me. The government uses

the the thresholds to see the ratio of services to provide and where. In 2017 over half of a million [five

hundred fifty-three seven hundred forty-two, to be exact] people were homeless. This helps my capstone

because it give me the statistics from the year before and a map to show the differents states also color coding

the different issues.

Ferland, Catherine. “About Helping Women Period.” Helping Women Period, 2018,

www.helpingwomenperiod.org/about/.

In this organization blog they specifically target women hygiene needs and why this all

began. After reviewing the different activists and feminists perspective on this issue, the leader of

this organization does this because there is someone out there that “needs to” suffer to have

access to a pad or tampon. This is a barrier every female has to go through. In situations like these

people who are a daughter , a friend, a sister, or mother consider looking for a necessity a

tribulation. Such as the non-profit organizations that branched of to create this nationwide help

are the Firecracker foundation, a foundation to help the child survivors of sexual trauma, working

together has increased a lot of the donations and volunteers in this case. This non-profit

organization is the most reliable and explicable source to guide us in our way to creating a

difference. It doesn't just show how or where to go assist, it shows why.

Scott, Jan. “Homelessness and Mental Illness.” B

 ritish Journal of Psychiatry, vol.

162, no. 3, 1993, pp. 314–324., doi:10.1192/bjp.162.3.314.

In this article Scott dives into to not only Self care physically but also

mentally. After reviewing the variety of different scholars work on the homelessness in

the UK , it is helpful to compare and see the differences in other parts of the world.

Other than the just focusing on what needs to be done in united states, the United

Kingdom is based on the mentality of them. The social needs are far more intense than

one who is simply not living on the streets. This section is a great overview of the

differences in different environments and government on the homelessness

mentality. This data and information will contribute to the capstone by providing an

outside perspective.

In this article Rosenblatt exposes reveals the change being made in the local social services with

shelters and anticipates that there is progress made. After reviewing the Riverside county

officials they quoted they are willing “to deal with an issue,as opposed to hoping or maybe

kind of wishing it was not there”.This article includes the homeless community themselves by

overviewing their life.Susannah shows us the feelings and control the authority has than the

people ;vice versa.Anne Unmacht says were doing “great economically” aside for that the

“downfall” of it all is the huge wave of homeless people are barely hanging on its

“astronomical”.The life on the streets is also changing. This will be the change in the capstone

project,Using local statistics and demographics to analyze what we are doing. To the shelter we

are going to in riverside are different than the ones in San Bernardino. In the San bernardino

area it is more critical than here in Riverside.
