Initial activity (5 minutes)

The teacher Cristian will enter the classroom and say “Hello, good morning” to the students.
The teacher will write the date on the board. Then the teacher will mark on the attendance
sheet the students who are present and the students who are absent.

Introductory task (20 minutes)

The teacher will stick strips of paper on the board containing the beginnings and the endings of
sentences. The teacher will ask the students to come to the board and match the two parts in
order to make a complete sentence in simple past using the correct form of the verb between
brackets. The activity will be corrected as a whole class orally.

Core task (85 minutes)

1. The teacher will give the students some photocopies. They will read the text and
answer the questions according to the text. To correct the activity the teacher will ask
the students to read the answers aloud.

Diego Velázquez was a 17th century Spanish painter. He was born in 1599, in Seville, Spain.

He started painting when he was 11 years old. His first paintings were about religious themes.

He was married to Juana Pacheco, a painter’s daughter.

2. The teacher will give the students another photocopy. They will put the words in order
to make questions and then answer the questions. To correct the activity the teacher
