THE RELIGIOUS SPRIRITUALITY OF NIAS

A. Introduction-the concept of Spirituality.

According to Delaney, there are four aspects of spirituality; Higher power or universal
intelligence, the belief in something higher; Self-discovery, a spiritual journey that begins with
self-reflection; Relationships, which is the relationship between others with deep respect; Eco-
awareness, the relationship with nature based on respect and respect for the environment.
Delaney combines aspects of higher power or universal intelligence with eco-awareness into one.
The spiritual aspect has two processes, the first upward process, the growth of an internal
force that alters one's relationship with God, self-awareness that there is a power far greater than
one's own power capable of helping and organizing a life full of mystery. In addition, it has an
eternal truth related to the purpose of human life, which continuously improves the wisdom and
will power of one's person, attains a closer relationship with the divinity and the universe and
removes the illusion of false ideas derived from the sense apparatus, And mind. It is often
compared to something of a worldly nature, and in the meantime there may be a belief in
supernatural powers as in religion but has an emphasis on personal experience, although it is
necessary to search, find and maintain something meaningful in its life. Strong efforts to seek
will bring courage which includes the willingness to reach the goal despite encountering
obstacles, from the outside and from within. In the drive is included strength of character in the
form of bravery, persistence, zest . Both processes of downwardness are characterized by a good
relationship with nature and others and even with oneself.

B. Religious of Nias

Adu or statue) in the form of a statue laid in the houses. Adu made of wood and with a religious
rite led by Ere (priest) Adu is regarded as an intermediary between man with gods, spirits and

Besides as a tribute to the ancestors of worship of ancestors as well as the guarantor of cosmic
harmony, the race is also used as a healer and an antidote to various disasters. Fear of bekhu
raises confidence in the power of the bekhu.
The self-consciousness of Nias people that there are many things that they understand
and which they can not do, then there is a surrender to the ancestral spirits and bekhu, for
example if they plant then they make offerings to the ancestors through religious rites, if they
want to hunt, then they give offerings to bela, if they are sick, they ask for help of ancestors give
healing. Everything they ask is always granted. With the key famoni (self-sanctification, not only
