Interpretation of Results

After conducting experiment 1 entitled “Small-Signal Amplifier”, we

were able to gather the following data and results:

 Comparing the gathered data on the DC equivalent circuit of the

Common-Base and Common-Emitter Amplifier, we can see that the
acquired collector voltage(Vc), base voltage(Vb) and emitter
voltage(Ve) are the same
 The Base-emitter voltage is 0.607 V or approximately equal to 0.7V.
 For the AC analysis of the common-emitter amplifier, the input is the
base, output is the collector and the emitter is the ground.
 For the AC analysis of the common-base amplifier, the input is the
emitter, output is the collector and the base is the ground.
 For the AC analysis of the common-collector amplifier, the input is the
base, output is the emitter and the collector is the ground.
 Comparing the peak-to-peak voltage of the input from the output of
the Common-Base Amplifier, we can say that the Vo is much larger than
the Vi.
 Since Vo is much larger than the Vi in the Common- Base Amplifier, the
voltage gain is 53.73, the highest among the three.
 Comparing the peak-to-peak voltage of the input from the output of
the Common-Emitter Amplifier, we can say that the Vo is larger than
the Vi.
 Since Vo is much larger than the Vi in the Common-Emitter Amplifier,
the voltage gain is then equal to 14.46
 Comparing the peak-to-peak voltage of the input from the output of
the Common-Collector Amplifier, we can say that the Vo is almost
equal to the Vi.
 Since Vo is almost equal to the Vi in the Common-Collector Amplifier,
the voltage gain is then equal to 1.03 or approximately equal to 1
 As displayed on the oscilloscope for the Common-Base Amplifier, the
output sine wave overlaps the input only that it is much larger than
the input.
 As displayed on the oscilloscope for the Common-Emitter Amplifier,
the output sine wave alternates the input and that it is larger than the
input.
 As displayed on the oscilloscope for the Common-Collector Amplifier,
the output sine wave overlaps the input and that it is approximately
the same.
Conclusion

After conducting the experiment entitled “Small-Signal Amplifier and

gathering data and results, the following can be concluded:
In this experiment we were able to see that the name of the amplifier
corresponds to the terminal common to the input and output. For example,
the common-base, its base terminal is the common terminal of the output
and the input, thus called Common-Base Amplifier. Also the base-emitter
and the base-collector junctions of the transistor are in forward and
reverse bias respectively.
Based from the measured terminal voltages, the operating conditions
of the Common-Base, Common-Emitter and Common-Collector amplifier are
all active because of the amplification of its values.
As stated above, the name of the amplifier corresponds to the
common terminal, thus when the name is Common-Base, the ground is the
base, the input is the emitter while output is the collector. For Common-
Collector, the ground is the collector, the input is the base while output is
the emitter. Lastly, for the Common-emitter, the ground is the emitter, the
input is the base and the output is the collector.
The voltage gain of a small-signal amplifier can be computed by
dividing the output voltage over the input voltage. Based from the gathered
data, the voltage gain in a Common-Base is the highest among the three
followed by the Common-Emitter and lastly the Common-Collector with a
voltage gain equal to 1.
Among the three small-signal amplifiers namely Common-collector,
Common-emitter, Common-base, the common-base amplifier produces the
best voltage amplification. Comparing the AC voltages on tables 1-1b, 1-2b, 1-
3b it can be seen that it produced the highest value output.
As observed from the graph, the Common-Emitter amplifier produced
a graph with a 180 degrees phase inversion on its input vs. output and that it
has greater output than input voltage. The Common-Collector amplifier
produced a graph overlapping and with almost the same size since the
voltage gain is approximately equal to 1. For the Common-base amplifier, it
has produced a graph overlapping but with a much greater output from its
input.
