Show them a picture of a color wheel- Ask them which half is the warm/cool colors?
Tell them that is what we will be working with today!
Have the students take out their wax crayons or pencil crayons (whatever they prefer)
Have them organize them into two piles – warm and cool colors
Body: 40 minutes
Learning Activity #1:
Students will: Trace their hands on both sides of the
middle line. If they need help, they can have their elbow
partner help them trace their handprint. AFTER, Outline their tracings with a
permanent marker.
Color their
hand with warm
colors on one side and cool
colors on the other.
To make their hands more
prominent,
color the backgrounds with the opposing colors.
Remind students that each box is to be a different color! You cannot all color them the same color. Otherwise it
will not look the way it is supposed to. IT can be different shades of green, but not all the same.
Closure: 10 minutes
Clean up!
Students will be given 5 minutes to finish their projects and clean up.
They are to hand in the project to me, with their names on it and then clean up all the tissue paper, help wipe
the glue off the desks and clean up the floor!
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning:
Students have a solid understanding of the differences between warm and cool colors; they notice that when
they are put together, they really stand out.
