It is with pleasure that I have learned that Bogdan Tofan, Architect, is being considered for
elevation to full professor in the Department of Architecture of Ion Mincu University of
Architecture & Urbanism.
I apologize for the tardiness of the letter as I had personal health issues to deal with this past year
but, I feel it is important to go on record to support the election of Bogdan Tofan to full professor
in the Department of Architecture of Ion Mincu University of Architecture & Urbanism. I have
personally know Bogdan Tofan for approximately ten years. I have enjoyed his company during
meetings of professional societies, I have observed and participated with him during university
academic settings and have observed his professional works as an architect.
His well rounded professional status brings the additional professional understanding which
contributes further to the academic setting. I have specifically toured his buildings:
Bazin Olympic Complex, Izvorani, Romania
Olympic Hotel, Izvorani, Romania
Olympic Swimming Pool, Izvorani, Romania
World Bank Headquarters - Bucharest, Romania
SOS Kinderdorf International, Bucharest, Romania

Each example clearly shows his understanding of aesthetics, functional arrangement, materials,
and details. This he imparts to his students.

I have observed Bogdan Tofan while working with his students. I am particularly impressed that
he works with his students versus just lecturing to them. His students are engaged in the
discussions showing a respect for the information he is sharing with them. Having taught at the
Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture as an adjunct faculty member for ten years, it is easy
to recognize when students are engaged and have respect for the leadership of the professor.
Bogdan Tofan most certainly has that from his students.

I was impressed that Bogdan Tofan stepped forward as the Vice Comisar for Romanian
architecture in 2012 and 2014 to guide the selection and development of the design for the
Romanian pavilion at the La Bienalle di Venezia

His leadership in the profession and in the classroom will be a credit to Ion Mincu University
and the continued growth of Romanian contemporary architecture through the young people he
inspires.
