Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: Students will be engaged by responding to questions directly during this “Kahoot
Assessment” individually. Competition further increases the amount of engagement in the classroom.
Representation: All students will be represented through the means of choice in response during this
activity. Further, this activity is meant to gauge the level of review that will happen and will not be directly
used as a grade.
Action and Expression: This will be shown through the allowing of student creation of nicknames during
this activity.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.

Prior to this activity starting, students will have finished and read the entirety of The Giver. This assessment
will take place before the summative assessment and will be used to ensure the entire class understands
the nuances of this book. The SRT Activity will be introduced, and allow for comprehension to be checked.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

During this activity, students will answer each question as they are provided through Kahoot! Students will
be able kept at the same pace through this and will be provided instant feedback on their comprehension
of the book. If the class does not have a strong grasp on specific areas of the text, I will be able to further
explain and create conversations surrounding them.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Showing students, the answers to the questions allows for instant feedback to occur as a whole in the
classroom. This process will ensure that students understand where the need to study more, and allow for
them to ensure their accuracy within this assessment.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the SRT Activity students will be given time to ask questions, and then following the questions, I will
prepare a review to help the areas students do not have a strong grasp of.

How will the data be used?

I will use the information from this SRT to understand the student level of understanding in their responses
and pay close attention to the areas where students are lacking. This will help create a more in-depth review
of this book.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
Through this activity, I desire to understand a general understanding of where students fell behind in the
book, so that the following year I can better prepare the lessons and ensure the lessons are constantly
improving. Alongside this, helping plan reviews for each class in a specific fashion ensures their success.

Reflective Practice:
The use of Kahoot is a wonderful new technology I had barely missed out on in High school. I feel this is a
wonderful way to review, and hope that as I use it more, I can master the approach to higher level and
higher order questions for student success. Concepts and ideas coming up for more conversations through
this is a strong tool for education.
